Remember our friend/T Q&A subject/spirit animal Jes Baker, keeper of the Militant Baker blog?
We already mentioned that Jes has lashed back at Abercombie & Fitch CEO Mike Jefferies with her photo series, “Attractive & Fat,” but her campaign has blown up, sending her all the way to New York and NBC’s Today.

From today.com:
“I wanted to not replicate but kind of show what it would look like to have a plus-size model in that scenario,” [Baker] told TODAY’s Savannah Guthrie on Wednesday. “I think that fashion is incredibly political when you’re fat. And to take the sensuality that’s found in Abercrombie ads and apply that to a fat person as well is just taking it one step further.”
…
“I would love to see so many images like the ones that we put out, that people are no longer outraged by it, that people are not shocked, that people don’t take a second look,” she said. “Then and only then will you start to see extra-large shirts everywhere, and by then, people probably won’t care.”
Keep on kicking ass, Jes. We’re behind you.

Fun fact: They called her up yesterday. I’m amazed she was that coherent an hour off the red-eye flight.
Get ’em girl!
I had an experience at Forever 21 at the Tucson Mall just yesterday. I needed a hot pink hoodie for a costume (à la Princess Bubblegum casual if you’re wondering: http://media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lkww7gqLOU1…) and found the perfect hoodie at Forever 21. But they did not have an extra large. In fact, they make no extra larges whatsoever. Now keep in mind, a large at Forever 21 is more like a Small or Medium in real sizing. So the large, of course, fit me a bit snuggly. I was directed to their “Faith 21” section which has all of Forever 21’s many clothing departments (Activewear, Denim, etc) but in plus-sized, crammed into a tiny corner of the store. Not surprisingly, no “Faith 21” comparable pink hoodie. Why no extra large guys? Would it kill you? You KNOW you’re using cheap ass sweatshop labor, which is an infraction in itself…so would it be THAT MUCH more expensive for your multi-million dollar company to offer one more size in all your stuff for us size 12 gals?
That is awesome!!!
Never miss an opportunity for free publicity.
I can’t really buy clothes at A&F, nor would I want to. (I’m a “retro” clothes guy). But I do like A&F mens cologne and related products.
