Hey, remember Jesse Kelly? The guy who was beaten soundly by both Gabby Giffords and Ron Barber, then bounced out of town to work with Citizens United, the widely-reviled political action committee, infamous for being part of a Supreme Court decision that many feel has warped American democracy as we know it?

After months of stop-and-go Tweeting, Kelly appears to have picked up the habit for good this time, treating followers to his brilliant football commentary, as well as right-leaning retweets.

I’m generally happy to ignore Kellly’s pearls of wisdom, but this one stopped me in my tracks this morning:

Two points here: For one, according to the story Kelly linked to, Obama plans to have children who wrote to him after the Newtown shooting with him on stage when he announces his gun proposals. Yeah, it’s emotional pandering, but without the shooting at Sandy Hook, we wouldn’t be having this discussion. Obnoxious, but understandable.

For another, Kelly did this:

Honestly, that repetition of talking points couldn’t be any more robotic. You’re selling out your own kind, Kelly!

  2. It’s simply my lingering resentment that he changed his Twitter handle to “JesseKellyDC” instead of something that represents his longstanding Southern Arizona roots, like “JKel5204LYFE” or something similarly tasteful.

  4. “Soundly Beaten”?? I think he lost both times by a squeeker!! I am I right or are you wrong?

  5. We’re both half-right. I was thinking back to Giffords’s 2008 race against Tim Bee, not the 2010 race against Kelly. The ’10 race was won by less than 1.5% of the vote.

    Barber’s victory over Kelly, however, was by nearly seven points.

    So, to clarify, we were both wrong. We can discuss it later over a cool beverage.

    A win is a win, a loss is a loss.

  7. He has done no work for this community. Commendably he has served in the military, but as far as Tucson goes, he only came to and from town when it was politically advantageous.

  8. His response to questions in the interview proves he is an asshole who earned the ass beating by Barber.

  9. calling him a dope and an asshole insults both of those groups. not having this kind of uneducated buffoon in congress is a huge win for the future of america.
