As we told Range readers last week, Citizens United has hired former congressional candidate Jesse Kelly as a director of development. The press release:
Citizens United President David N. Bossie issued the following statement on the hiring of former Congressional candidate Jesse Kelly as the new Director of Development at Citizens United. In this position, Jesse Kelly will handle major gifts and be a part of the leadership team at Citizens United and its affiliate The Presidential Coalition.
“I am honored to have Jesse join the Citizens United team,” said David N. Bossie, President of Citizens United. “As a former Marine, small businessman, and Congressional candidate, Jesse has shown that he does not shy away from tough challenges. Jesse will be a great asset to Citizens United as we continue our mission of restoring our government to citizens’ control.”
We admit that we had expected that Jesse would stick around, running for office and derailing the careers of more viable GOP candidates, but we guess his commitment to Southern Arizona wasn’t as deep as he portrayed it while he was still a candidate. We’ll miss you, Jesse!

David Bossie + Jesse Kelly = countdown to major mishandled major gifts scandal.
Jesse Kelly wasn’t a presence in local politics before he ran for office and left the state after he lost the last election, so anyone who thought he was in it for OUR sake and would actually DO something here to help US was greatly mistaken!!!!
As far as I’m concerned, this goes for McSally, too. Why should I cast my vote for someone who has never even TRIED to help my community before they plaster their names across town and solicit my approval? It’s obvious to me that they’re just in it for THEMSELVES. Remember how some national news outfit went across Phoenix asking residents what John McCain had done for them? Nobody could come up with an answer other than say they knew he was a P.O.W. He didn’t even live in AZ when he was a P.O.W.!
It used to be that folks would start “making a name” for themselves to set up a run for office by showing up at city council/board of supervisors meetings, school board meetings, writing opinion pieces, etc., or (shock!) by trying to get some referendum passed that reflected their politics and do some good for the community.
These days, they set up for a run for office by just parroting what other people say and raising money from special interests to buy their way into office and then … vote the way the people who paid for them to run want them too.
Seems to me.
This is a good thing. One more ignorant mumbling conservative jumbled together with others of like mind to mumble incoherently amongst themselves. Tucson will NOT miss J-Kel
If jesse shows the intelligence for CU that he showed in his debates here, I think the democrats have nothing to worry about.
Our gain is their loss!
Citizens United isn’t that some religious neo-Nazi organisation?
using a name like that almost sounds legitimate.
I don’t think they look like a Neo-Nazi group, Old man, but a quick perusal of their website indicates that they are radical religious right-wing fear-based reactionaries. Jesse should feel right at home there.
Heard Jesse speak at a gathering on Calle Concordia in 2010. I concluded that the young man was a well-funded person with very little education and no talent for public speaking. He came shockingly close to winning the election. Hello, voters?
