What a horrific week for longtime Tucson restaurants! First we hear that three well-known Mexican restaurants are on the chopping block, and now we’ve confirmed that the Furr’s Family Dining restaurant at Oracle and Wetmore roads has closed.

The Furr’s on St. Mary’s Road, however, remains open.

That Furr’s on Oracle and Wetmore had been there for some 30 years. Can you imagine how many of those tiny dishes of canned green beans and Jell-o salad it served in that amount of time? It boggles the mind.

  1. Thanks to the bankster bailouts, taxpaying citizens just can not afford to eat out. Sad to see them go, maybe people ought to go to the other Furrs to help keep them in business. They have a great selection for a great price. I am taking my family there tomorrow.

  2. The closing of the iconic Mexican restaurants was bad enough, but Furr’s! What other dining establishment in Tucson offers blue Jello?

  3. We were shocked when we drove by at 5:30 on Saturday and saw the place dark. We really enjoyed the variety and the prices there. Very, very sad.

  4. I’m sorry i do not feel bad for this. The reason being I have not eaten there. The reason for that is I am under 80 years old.
