Recently, the writing on The Daily Show has been so smart and on point that I could probably post a video the day after every new episode, but I try to keep my fanaticism down to a minimum. However, last night’s segment on “pink slime” is a must see, as Stewart’s outrage bubbles over.

However, it’s still a bit disconcerting that Safeway, Fry’s, McDonald’s and other meat purveyors thought this sort of thing was OK until the media shame set in. I guess I have to start asking what other crap they think is acceptable for me to eat, at least until there’s some sort of outrage that forces these institutions to change their minds.

Part two is below the cut.

  1. Just pick out a cut of meat for yourself and have the butcher grind it up….voila…..no pink slime……genius???????

  2. Why isn’t pink slime a model of efficiency? French and other foreign delicacies include seemingly gross animal parts all the time. Even if supermarkets and fast food chains are abandoning it, it doesn’t tell me it’s not just a PR issue. Is there anything dangerous or unhealthy(ier) about using all the pieces of the cow?

  3. Audreybeans. It’s processed through ammonia and other chemicals to kill bacteria because they use parts that are no longer good for human consumption. Would you eat that?

  4. That’s the info these commentaries are missing, the actual health concern, not the icky-factor. Thx
