Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords has reported raising a staggering $471,686 between January and March this year. Her latest FEC report, filed yesterday, shows that the freshman Democrat has $1,672,821 in the bank as she gears up to face a challenge from Republican state Sen. Tim Bee in CD8.
In the previous quarter, between October and December 2007, Giffords had raised $272,253.
The Bee campaign has not yet released first-quarter results. He had $161,246 in the bank at the end of 2007.

Hmmm, now I get it. This is why he needs to have public dollars from school boards to buy his ad spots…at the same time that he leads the effort to decrease property taxes, which are the majority source of school funds.
Tim…geez…you are cutting yourself off at the knees here aren’t ya?
I’m going by memory here, but a while back fiscal conservative Sen. Jack Harper (R – Surprise) attacked such public funding of political campaigning with tax dollars. His attacks were separate from the use of Clean Elections. The article is somewhere in my pile of newspaper clippings, and was in the AZDS in either January or February.

As an aside, a 23 January 2008 article in the Explorer estimated (note key word estimated) Bee had $300k in the bank, whereas Giffords already had raised more than $1.1 million at that point.
