Tucson’s 2025 Cinco de Mayo celebrations will include an annual charity golf tournament organized by local “tech nerds” to support individuals and families impacted by sexual trauma.

More than 100 golfers are expected to participate in the fourth annual Tech Nerd Cinco de Golf Classic to benefit SACASA (Southern Arizona Center Against Sexual Assault) at Omni Tucson National Resort on Monday, May 5.

The scramble format tournament will bring tech industry leaders and professionals together for a fun day of networking and friendly competition, followed by a fiesta happy hour and dinner, awards program and silent auction.

“Our goal is to raise more than $50,000 for SACASA with this one-day event,” said Porsha Martinez of Winsor Consulting.

The IT consulting and cybersecurity firm co-produces the annual fundraiser in association with Tech Nerds Unite, the networking group of 300-plus IT professionals formed in 2020 that supports tech innovation in Tucson.

Martinez said she feels that the $50,000 goal is feasible, given that the event’s number of sponsors and golfers has grown substantially each year. To date, it has raised more than $67,000 for SACASA, which provides support services for survivors of sexual assault, rape and harassment in Southern Arizona.

While the tournament’s sponsors, organizers and participants are primarily technology providers and professionals, Martinez said, “You don’t have to be a nerd to participate. But you will see nerds hosting a tent on the course — all dressed up as nerdy IT people, because that’s what we are all about.”
