It certainly was fun while it lasted, having unlimited free (with a few commercials mixed in) access to nearly all of the songs, but I suppose every party comes to an end.

And in one week, all those users who signed up for the free all you can eat desktop music that day will find out that they’re going to be limited to just 10 hours per month now. You’re also only allowed to play individual tracks no more than five times per month.

Those paid plans cost $4.99 per month for ad-free desktop streaming and $9.99 for access to the mobile app.

This may not be a huge deal for most listeners, who probably won’t run up against the 10 hour cap, but telling me that I can’t listen to “What a Fool Believes” by the Doobie Brothers a sixth time in a month? That’s just unfair.

  1. I admit to not being impressed by Spotify, which I find sluggish and clunky — and I don’t think I’ve ever actually streamed anything with it, just played bits of my own collection — a task that Foobar does more admirably.

  2. spotify is the latest ‘walmart.’ reel them in with freebies, destroying what came before and then jack up the cost.
