Who says Christian music is behind the times? Cortni’s 2010 “live” video for “After Party” recalls the music of Avril Lavigne, one of the biggest stars in music right now. Wait, she’s not? Oh.

At least the song utilizes the sadly underappreciated Speak & Spell in a prominent musical role. That’s kind of cool and sort of makes up for the stupid “Heaven as afterparty” metaphor or the “life is so awesome and happy always” part.

The editor of the Tucson Weekly. I have no idea how I got here.

  1. Avril may not be one of the biggest at the moment, but she is still a pretty big star in the music world and she has been one of the biggest female and best selling female artists in the last ten years.

  2. Wow Dan, I can’t believe you’ve shown so little respect for the uncommonly average Avril Lavigne. Oh wait, that wasn’t even the point, was it? Yeah, now I’ll never be able to enjoy the “Speak’N’Spell with as much happiness as before…

  3. Avril – isn’t that a drug for headaches. With that music, I better overdose. What a bunch of trash.

  4. The teens we know like her! 🙂
{Me thinks you are just Christian bashing here ~(but hey, it’s the Tucson weekly).
Your opinion is, well, just “your personal opinion”.
Teens need positive stuff esp. today!

  5. People just love to lambastes Avril, but to be honest I would much rather my daughter was influenced by Avril rather than so many other artists out there that are overly sexual and/or worse etc.. And at least with Avril you have someone who is a strong empowered young woman whom thinks for herself, doesn’t let others push her around, and she does not feel compelled tp conform to the norm, which is often the easiest path, and lastly she is not overly concerned about what others think or say about her. I find these all of traints admirable, but when you don’t conform people love to criticise you because it is the easiest thing to do…
