From the Associated Press:

A federal judge has barred Arizona from rejecting federal voter-registration forms on the grounds that the applicants haven’t provided proof of citizenship as required by a voter-approved state law.

Wednesday’s decision by U.S. District Judge Roslyn Silver is a response to an April ruling by an appeals court.

The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals had ruled that a federal law trumps Arizona’s requirement that people to prove their citizenship in order to vote.

That federal law allows voters to fill out a mail-in voter registration card and swear they are citizens under penalty of perjury, but it doesn’t require them to show proof as Arizona’s 2004 law does.

Silver ruled that Arizona has to make the federal form available in places where the state registration form is available.

Honestly, at this point, I just want the state’s government to decide whether it wants to abide by federal law (medical marijuana) or continue to fight the power (immigration policy), and stick with that stance across the board.

  1. I moved half a mile down the road and I got a notice in the mail that I must go and change my drivers license to reflect my new address or I would be ineligible to vote. Wowza. Welcome to Naziland.

  2. I feel that if Brewer and her ilk dont want people to participate in Democracy they should just admit it and be done with it altogether. Then the feds should pull ALL aid and write the state off as a loss. Let the brown dirt retake it all..

  3. I DON’T understand the OBJECTIONS to voters needing an I.D. to vote……..Damn it, I was asked for mine when I went to Pizza Hut and used my credit card…….The only conclusion I come to is the ILLEGAL VOTE is more important to SOME than an HONEST ELECTION here in Arizona…………

  4. Yes TJ, however there are some people out there that don’t have credit cards, driver’s licenses, or photo ID of any kind. They will be disenfranchised.
    Personally, I don’t just want voter ID I want National ID cards, or the requirement that everyone buys and carries a passport (which you should have already in case you’re accused of being here illegally).
    Or Arizona could just get off their ass and meet the requirements of a national ID that could be tracked and traced by the Feds and the State. Better yet, how about RFID chips in our arms? If you don’t want to get the chip, you can leave the USA because you’re putting everyone at risk by not being a dutiful citizen.

  7. WE MUST NOT cede to Federal Control. We will have NO AUTHORITY over ANYTHING if that happens. We, and all of us, will be PROPERTY of United States, Inc.

    Refresher: The PEOPLE are supposed to be the SOVERIGNS. WE run it all. We GRANT authority to the CITY to enforce certain rules, which WE make. We GRANT the COUNTY authority to enforce certain OTHER rules. We put the Sheriff in charge of that. It is HIS job to make sure the CITY is doing ITS job. The STATE is allowed (because WE TOLD them so) to do certain things with overview of the Counties and Cities. The FEDERAL has very limited power. Anything you can’t find in the Constitution, THEY DON’T HAVE POWER TO DO. That means that DO NOT have the power to control our every move. They can’t run roughshod over the People. They get around it all by claiming “Commerce Clause”. THey have gotten all of the power they have from our failure to control them, going back 125 years or so.

    They now say that, since we accept Federal Money for such things as highways, ETC, they can but into our lives. WE NEED TO STOP SENDING them ‘money’. When we send them a ‘dollar’, they send back forty CENTS, and tell us how generous they are, and oh, by the way, ‘you NOW have to do this or that because WE SAY SO, since you accepted our generous offer.’

    Cede to them? GOD, NO!!!!! Throw them OUT. Take back our forests. Take back all the land they “own” here. None of them can manage a pop stand. How dare they attempt to manage US?

  9. The federal government has taken control of Arizona long ago. Bruce Babbitt made sure of that. The federal has so much control of the lands in AZ National forests, BLM land, National Parks & Monumernts, Military Bases, oversight of the indian reservations, who can reside in the state and not have to provide the responsibilities of a citizen. Mandate what the responsibilities of the citizens of Arizona are responsible for land management, fires, roads, medical cost and they refuse to pay the majority of the cost to maintain the federal mandates. Its really just a numbers game when you have states that have 2 senators and just one congressman because they dont have the population for more. like New Hampshire 600,00 or Deleware,orVermont, or Maine or Maryland. These Senators From these state have more authority over what happens in AZ than do Jan Brewer. The democratic party in AZ are just mindless minions of the handouts from the Alantic coast. Like puppies jumping to suckle to another meal from mom. Raul Grijualva wanting to follow in the footsteps of MLK but dont have the history or the knowledge of it. Gabby Giffords was another. virtually no diffrrence in the representation before or after the failure of the mental health system in AZ with Loughner and that tragety. We have the Veteran Senator that stops a campaign in the middle of the road for fear of reprisals from the east coast Senators. Another Senator that looks at the horizon and says I quit. Face it the West is controlled by the minority population that has a soundly majority in the Senate in the East. It was the frame work that the house of represenative and the changing of the population in to representation would balance this out. This has not happened and when the majority of legislation is passed by proxy in commitee and that goes to seniority. The congress has not even passed a budget as manidated by law. And each one of our congressmen will always say it’s not in the budget, WHAT BUDGET???? you havent passed one. The west has lost allways has allways will till the senate is made up of every 4.35 congressional seats after each census.
