As an apparent, dyed-in-the-wool, card-carrying-communist member of this liberal rag, I’ve gotta say, Mitt Romney fared pretty well against Obama.
Okay, that’s an undersell. Romney has come out looking like the victor, according to roughly the entire damn internet.
Simply, he was on point. He seemed comfortable, he was aggressive, and (instance where he basically said his kids had a habit of lying aside) didn’t say anything monumentally stupid.
As for Obama…well, Charles P. Pierce put it perfectly in his post at Esquire’s politics blog:
The thing is, if you’re going to play rope-a-dope, sooner or later, you have to come off the ropes and throw a punch. You bounce off the ropes and land the left and then the right over the top, and then the other guy goes out of the ring in a blanket. Otherwise, it’s just a way to get yourself punched in the stomach a lot. Along about the 48-minute mark of Wednesday night’s debate, it became clear to me that the president simply was not going to do that.
The president was flat. He didn’t seem willing to engage. He looked to be playing, as one commentator put it, “prevent” defense — and as football fans know, prevent defense occasionally has this nasty habit of backfiring on the team using it. Complacency kills.
So Obama has two weeks to get his things together, and attempt to rediscover the passionate politician who captured imaginations four years ago before the next debate. Because Romney, by all accounts seems to be back on track.

You’re right about the president-he stepped on his dick last night, as my grandpa used to say. But these debates are pointless anyway as they don’t include any other candidates, like Gary Johnson. Way to protect the left-right illusion, status-quo!
We lose either way. Its just a show.
kinda hard to have your responses ready when the candidate you are debating plays the etch-a-sketch game again and changes his stance on everything. Next time he’ll be ready and catch Mitt with his lies
Well at least there is some good news if Romney wins, I won;t have to listen to that Anti-American ELMO any more.
Way to make the country a better place Mitt
What debate? I spent the evening with literate friends, eating and drinking and discussing interesting books. No political talk permitted. And I slept well, thankyouverymuch.
If the debate focused on what each candidate said he was going to do, then Obama would’ve won. Unfortunately for him, it was about the poor job Obama has done in the past four years. Not even the almighty Obama can spin his own record. It’s a good thing for him, however, that 47% of the people are idiots and will vote for him regardless of how much damage he does to the nation.
Lying blatantly about your policies and those of your opponent in order to sell yourself to the audience is only ‘winning’ in exactly the same way the Charlie Sheen meant it. It’s going to take more than a sprited, but ultimately dishonest, debate performance for Romney to close the deal. Polling indicates that Romney boosted his appeal in his base, but Independents were overwhelmingly for Obama last night. The race hasn’t budged over all and this ‘victory’ will merely be yesterday’s media narrative by the time the VP debate rolls around next week. The media wanted a “Romney bounces back” narrative to spice up the horse-race, but Romney’s campaign is ready for the knacker.
I didn’t watch the debate, I am so fed up with Romney not telling us specifics and he still has not done so. He lies about everything thing too, and changes his position. Just who is the real Romney, only his wife knows.
Did Obama show up? He was peddling the same BS as he does on the stump. Only difference was he wasn’t talking like a Southern Baptist Mininster, or spewing his shuck and dive. His lies were more obvious when the guy he lies about is there to refute them. I don’t care for Romney either, but between the two, I am leaning toward him. At least he has accomplished something other than politics. As the bumper sticker says, ” better a Mormon than a moron.”
Obama loss because he did not have a telescreen in front of him to tell him what to say. He’s lied to the public on so many fronts that he got confused.. If he played less gulf and paid more attention to America’s problems, he might have had a chance of at least showing face but alas he could not.
If Romney thinks he can win by having diarrhea of the mouth by telling the moderator what he want to talk about. This is nothing but a used car sales mans attitude, he will say anything and flip and flop on any subject proposed to him.
Romney is what is wrong with this country, nothing but greed.
Romney did fantastic in the debate, but since then he’s been playing Flip Flop on some of his material…Both candidates said some dubious things, but Romney…where the hell is his plan on fixing everything…all he said was I’ll make it better..but how..no hope no future…at least we know where the President stands…and in my opinion about Romney…if you don’t can’t give me a well strcutured plan, you don’t stand for anything…opinons are like something we all have, and everyone elses stinks but mine and the President’s at this point…..Romney has no plan, except that of the Koch Brothers, Pizza Palace, Adelson, Mitch McConnel, John Boehner, and a host of others who want only one thing…POWER…to get Obama unelected…that is their stated PLATFORM…NO PLAN FOR THE FUTURE OF THIS COUNTRY….
