Tucson will be hosting its own sky lantern festival this August in a magical night of music, games and the sky lantern event. Sky lanterns, lit and let off into the sky, have been used in many cultures to symbolize release – whether it’s to make a wish, release a worry, for good luck, or to celebrate.

There will be a challenge course, lawn games, face painting and food vendors. Cozy up to the fire pits and listen to live music until dusk, then get ready to set your lantern off into the night sky.

When: Saturday, August 31

5  – 10 p.m.

Where: 4600 N Silverbell Road

Tickets: General admission $55

Kids 4-11 $15

Kids 0-3 Free

*Sky lanterns are 100% biodegradable and are tracked for easy cleanup. Sky lanterns will not be released if bad weather is expected. They are designed to descend only when low on fuel and run no risk of causing a fire.

  1. It’s still garbage no matter how you spin it. Things don’t biodegrade quickly in AZ. They burn fast though.

  2. This sounds like a great event but not for summer. who wants to cozy up with Fire pits when it’s 100 degrees. Tucson you always miss the mark. Disappointed!

  3. $55 is way too much for a night of family fun $140 for a family of four what the problem is?

  4. $55.00 discriminate against the poor!!! I only let’s in a certain class of people! Just not right!

  5. Fireworks and burning lanterns in the desert. I don’t care how they are designed to biodegrade or stay aloft until the fuel runs out.

  6. Lighten up people. The desert has only rocks and sand which is very very hard to ignite. Im sure the lanterns will be picked up after falling back as they dont get too far. Think before making dumb comments. I can get 36 sky lanterns for $55 so it is too pricey.

  7. And what else you going to do or watch in southern arizona. All your pro teams are doormats for the rams chargers dodgers lakers clippers and so on and so on. Maybe one day if you act really really good you shall have pro sports in arizona. But for now its roller derby. Dog hockey and melanoma contests. With love from central calif coast. Im only teasing.
