Interim City Manager Martha Durkin has delivered a $1.368 billion proposed budget to the Tucson City Council for review at today’s meeting.

That’s a bump of $103 million from the current budget of $1.265 billion.

Most of that increase—close to $80 million—will be in the form of spending on big-ticket capital projects, with city staffing levels remaining flat.

The cops, firefighters and the justice system are responsible for roughly $13 million of the increased budget costs.

The City Council will continue discussing the budget at its May 5 meeting, with adoption of a tentative budget scheduled for May 19 and a June 9 public hearing before a final adoption of the budget.

  1. In the budget is also New Eye Glasses for JIM NINTZEL since he’s missing his glasses for last two weeks on Zona Politics. :=)

  2. This is not sustainable folks. When will you wake up?

    $1.37 BILLION dollars.

Sorry but they spent your pothole money.

  3. Ha! It’s true, I got to the studio and realized I left my cheaters on the coffee table at home! Thanks for watching.

  4. 8% increase in government spending for the 5th poorest city in America where growth, jobs and future prosperity are met with a resounding “NO”. There’s never enough money that can be taken from the fruits of others labor.

But no worries, the floods of illegals filling the seats in our public schools will solve everything.

  5. What happened to the 200 million dollars that evaporated in the Rio Nuevo project? It all disappeared into thin air and no one knows what happened to it? Some one got it. It’s somewhere.

It seems like a severe case of embezzlement to me. The problem in this issue is the Police do not want to investigate white collar crime as it is to complex and they do not want to spend the time looking through complex documents to discover who the thieves are. Meanwhile, the taxpayers take it on the chin.

There should be no new budget till the City of Tucson finds out where the money went and who or what received it. This loss was a serious one that know one seems to care about……………… You won’t care till you receive the new tax statement. You and your family will make up the shortfall as the embezzlers will be in Europe enjoying their new found wealth.

  6. The only way to effectively fight these thieves is to ballotize a property tax rollback proposition that reimburses property tax and sales tax payers for the theft of Rio Nuevo money.

    TAKE AWAY THEIR SPENDING CAPABILITIES.

By the way did you hear the County is closing libraries? No money.

    HUH!

  7. Lovely article – one of the best things I’ve recently read, and by far the most useful. I think it could also be useful for everyone to know how and where to fill a form online. I’ve found some decent tutorials on how to fill FL DH 527 out online here http://pdf.ac/aPzw8x
