Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio has said something, uh, “interesting” again.

From Fox News Latino:

The sheriff of Arizona’s Maricopa County, Joe Arpaio, said Wednesday in Tampa that the Obama administration should give him a “medal” for apprehending undocumented immigrants rather than investigating him for his methods.

“I should be getting a medal. The president should invite me to the White House … and thank me for helping the government fight illegal immigration and the drug cartels,” Arpaio told members of the foreign press covering the Republican National Convention.

Arpaio goes on to deride the Justice Department for investigating his office, and claims that Mexico should be making an effort to stem the tide of illegal immigration, saying, “It’s a two-way street. It requires mutual cooperation.”

But let’s backtrack here. A medal for “fighting” drug cartels? Sure. Why not? While we’re at it, we should give Arpaio medals for wasting his constituents’ money in sending a deputy to Hawai’i to investigate the President’s birth certificate.

Or perhaps one for ignoring sexual assault crimes within his jurisdiction? Maybe one for wasting and misusing $100 million in taxpayer money?

Arpaio may be making a name for himself worldwide for his antics (hey, remember the time he and Steven Seagal USED A TANK AND 40 DEPUTIES to knock down the wall of a suspected cockfighter?), but there’s absolutely no way he should be celebrated by anyone—lord knows he does it enough on his own. More than that, there’s no way he should have a job after this year.

  1. Definitely ….Sheriff Joe deserves a commemorative medal: ” Upgrade to Village Idiot”….bestowed upon him by the present holder: Gov. Jan Brewer

  2. Was this a news article or an editorial comment? Seems like a news item that turns into a personal opinion posting.

  3. It is unbelievable that the people of this country do not care about the stipulations and laws that were put forth in regards to becoming the President of the United States. There are good reasons the president of the United States needs to be born in this country.

  4. Ricochet: This one stepped over a bit into rant territory, you’re right. But personally, I hesitate to call anything that involves Joe Arpaio talking about how he feels he is just that much more special to be stretching the definition of news.

Da Real: You’re right, the President of the United States should be born in the United States. However, it’s been proven time and time again that Barack Obama was born in the U.S. — it’s an agreed-upon fact even among his political opponents — making Arpaio’s play of sending a deputy to Hawai’i completely, utterly, stupidly absurd.

  5. Someday Justice will be served for Sheriff Joe Arpaio. We might have to wait until the last day, but it will be served.

  6. My oh my. Such hate displayed. The author must have many, many relatives in Maricopa jails, else why would Mendez hate Joe so much for simply doing his job?

  7. In some ways I agree with a few things Sheriff Joe says and in a few others I don’t. In some ways Mexico is to blame along with other countries, if they would improve their economy people wouldn’t have to cross borders sneaking into another country for slave labor wage work. More than control the people sneaking in, we need to heavily find and punish all these corporations and companies like Walmart for employing illegal day workers, isn’t that also against federal law?

  8. To fine the companies that hire illegal day workers they won’t go harsher on enforcing the law, who do you think the contributors are to our political parties? There will be a lot of noise about illegal immigration for a little while longer than after the election it will die down and won’t hear about it again for another 3 years.

  9. jdmendez : I see your point. Apparently the documents he provided have been tampered with or created. There sure is alot of info to the contrary. Why will they not just submit the info and document that Joe is asking for….Because they dont exist!!!! I like the way Obama brought the country together. But Im not for an immigrant making decisions for this country. You need to stop focusing on the beauty of life when the dark is sneaking around in the shadows with a big friendly smile on its face.

  10. I also think it is outrageous that this comment gets disliked!!!

“It is unbelievable that the people of this country do not care about the stipulations and laws that were put forth in regards to becoming the President of the United States. There are good reasons the president of the United States needs to be born in this country.”

What kind of people are we bringing here anyway. You all dont care about our LAWS. Sounds like exactly the problem here!!!

  11. “We are a nation of laws, yet these laws are being violated on a massive scale in all areas”

Is the term illegal, is illegal in reference to everyone that violates the law, or is there some type of amnesty for the chosen few. It appears that the blindfold on lady justice has temporarily been removed for the sake of Arpaio, by his nation wide group of supp
orters, and the scales which were formally used for judgement, are found to be inadequate for use in the balance of justice any longer.

  12. Joe does a good job. I have no problems with the man or his methods.
A Democrat robot from the media, named David Mendez is doing his part to support the failed presidency of Obama. However, he seems more than a bit off in his comments and observations. Allegations are nothing more than opinions until proven otherwise.

  13. Do they make medals honoring corruption, incompetence and racism? If so, not only Joe, but all his supporters deserve one.

  14. Da Real –
One more time: Not only has the President proven that he was born in this country, but because there is NO question that his mother was born here, he would still be considered a ‘natural born American’ if he had been born on the moon or in the heart of Mecca, which he certainly was NOT.

I suggest that you, Donald Trump, Jan Brewer, ‘Sheriff Joe’, et al go back and re-study our Constitution; in particular, the 14th Amendment.

  15. people always think in America you have the right of freedom and happiness so the immigrants flood over here and as many Americans don’t realize is that in America you are guaranteed the right to pursue happiness and freedom. Most our rights are amendments and an amendment can always be fixed or destroyed.

  16. Melissa,
While this is pretty much of a ‘dead’ thread, I have to say that your post regarding sending him marijuana leaves just doesn’t seem to be relevant to the subject matter.

Your statement that “…. an amendment can always be fixed or destroyed.” is technically accurate, but accomplishing that ‘feat’ is actually very difficult. Yes, technically an amendment can be nullified, but that has only happened one time in our nation’s history, when Congress ratified the twenty-first amendment to nullify the eighteenth amendment, which was the prohibiton of alcohol.

While over 5,000 amendments have been proposed to Congress, only 27 have ever been ratified and 6 are still considered ‘pending’, including one concerning child labor that has been waiting since 1924!
