There are details beginning to emerge about a new Tucson restaurant called Urban Belly. The place doesn’t have a location yet, but the chefs and other people backing the place are beginning work on what they will be serving, describing it in an e-mail like this:
Our cuisine can be called nostalgic, elevated, comfort food. Basically we take simple dishes like mac n cheese and pb&j, deconstruct them, add more modern technique to them and present in a classy way. Its a fun approachable way to eat.
The owners are looking for a location near or in the downtown area. We’ll be back with more when we learn more.

Easy-to-stuff with whatever you want and to deal with, pita bread all-beef hot dogs are impossible to find in the Old Pueblo?
My fear is that in the short run, new eateries in the downtown area will simply steal folks from other places downtown. In the longer run, once the streets are reopened and people are no longer “afraid” to come downtown, there may be new (and returning) customers for everyone.
There is always room for one more great eatery. Tucsonans know what they like & are faithful patrons when they find a tasty place. Looking forward to this one!
