Roll Call puts Congressman Ron Barber on the list of the 10 most endangered members of Congress:

Barber’s re-election in 2012 was surprisingly close, and the former congressional aide will once again face retired Air Force Col. Martha McSally next year. Democrats privately worry about Barber’s ability to win without presidential-year turnout — or lots of national dollars — behind him. But Barber inherited former Rep. Gabrielle Giffords’ political team, a group that repeatedly proves they can get the vote out in Tucson.

McSally promises to run a fierce campaign against Barber — if she avoids a primary. Republicans regret not giving McSally enough support last cycle, when she lost by just 2,500 votes. The national GOP plans to invest heavily in her race this time around.

  1. Democrats should save their money unless they can find him a primary opponent. The guy votes like a Republican anyway, so why bother?

  2. Reporters: Mr. Barber, why did you vote with the Republican loonies on the government shutdown?

    Barber:

Reporters: So, Ms. McSally, how would you have voted on the government shutdown decisions?

McSally: I’m not going to answer that on the grounds that it might tend to make me less electable.

Me: I have never felt less represented in my entire life.

  3. Gotta agree. I hate to see McSally win, but Barber doesn’t deserve re-election and if the party isn’t going to replace him that might be the only way to get him to retire.

Two years from now we can choose a real Dem to run against McSally and see how that goes.

  4. I like Barber, it’s refreshing to have a representative who’s not a nut case like most Republicans these days, or a Marxist like Grijalva. Whatever happened to moderates? Oh, yeah, voters reflecting views in the comments above, and similar ones on the tea party right, made them an endangered species.

  5. Congressman Barber’s office never responded to offer assistance for a WWII veteran to receive full recognition towards combat service. Seems the office is consistent.

  6. Some posters seem infected by right-wing illogic:

    Barber is a moderate.
    All moderates must be punished.
    Thus Barber must be punished.

  7. Barber is NOT A “moderate”. On nearly every policy he’s as far to the right-wing as any republican.

He doesn’t even have Gabby’s small saving grace of a slight recognition of the need for solar power to replace burning coal to make electricity and her activism toward that end!

He’s a war-mongering, corporate stooge who’s wedded at the hip to the deadly “growth lobby” that’s going to kill our Planet. Get him the hell out of office!

PLEASE, SOME REAL DEMOCRAT RUN AGAINST THIS BLUE-DOG so we can have someone to vote FOR!
