Sen. Martha McSally, R-Arizona, officially entered the race to hold on to her seat this fall. She raised $12.6 million last year for the race, but likely Democratic challenger Mark Kelly had raised $20.2 million in the same period. Credit: (Photos by Gage Skidmore/Creative Commons)

Fox News released a poll today that showed retired astronaut and Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate Mark Kelly with a 17-point lead over appointed Sen. Martha McSally.

That’s way outside the survey’s =/- 3.5 percent margin of error.

The survey shows 56 percent of those polled prefer Kelly, while just 39 are supporting McSally, a Republican who lost a 2018 Senate race to Democrat Kyrsten Sinema but was later appointed to the Senate seat previously held by the late John McCain by Gov. Doug. Because she was appointed, McSally must face voters again this year (and whoever wins in November will have to defend the seat in 2022).

With only one recent exception, McSally has consistently trailed Kelly in polling, as a roundup at FiveThirtyEight.com shows. The polling average Real Clear Politics now puts Kelly ahead by an average of 11.3 percentage points. McSally has decried the poor numbers as “fake polls.”

The Fox News poll also showed Democrat Joe Biden leading President Donald Trump in Arizona. Biden had the support of 49 percent of likely voters, while Trump had the support of 40 percent.

  1. Everyday I here commercials saying mcsally is a bigger moral degenerate then mark kelly and the next commercial says mark kelly is a bigger crook then mcsally. Then I see both biden and trump commercials saying the other one was a bigger vietnam war draft dodge and war monger then they were! I will vote third party so I don’t have to vote for vermin.

  2. Voting third party is about as effective as wiping your ass with that vote and flushing it down the shitter.

  3. Yes Key Evans! Truer words have rarely been typed. She is THE participation trophy senator. Yet buck private (t/h to Wileybud) arizona just can’t choose, so he chooses to sacrifice his vote to the crapper. Unfortunately this is the stank hand which we, the people who know reality when we see it, are dealt with these days.

  4. if you are deciding based on advertisements and don’t see a difference between the Democratic Party and the Trump Cult you may as well go right ahead and throw that vote away.

  5. Az/dc ask hillary clinton and al gore how ineffective voting third party is as neither became president! Nader beat gore not dubya and jill stein beat hellbot not dump. Pelosi says she was set up at a hair salon that was closed by the city. She says she didn’t know the city she lives in has closed all hair salons since march and wouldn’t take any questions on why she wasn’t wearing a mask that she advocates everyone else be required to wear. Besides queen nancy was just demonstrating her white privilege to trump supporters and fox news who say white privilege doesn’t exist!

  6. AZ/DC!, surely we don’t want Bucky to sacrifice his liberal purity to help save the nation…do we?

  7. One unfortunate fact is that Republicans seem to know more about Mark Kelly than his own supporters. Most the liberal media report little about his past endeavors, sexist ads, China connections, cost to Pima County taxpayers, & the fact he has kept his house in Texas (possibly for income tax purposes?).

Some who plan to vote for Kelly admit they know nothing about him except he’s married to Gabby Giffords & is a retired astronaut. While Martha McSally campaigns around the state, holding rallies, & even knocking on doors herself, Kelly remains hidden & refuses talks with potential constituents & interviews with reporters.

  8. Anybody ask mcsally about dump saying those marines who died at belleau wood were a bunch of losers and suckers for dying for their country? At least vietnam war draft dodger chicken hawk mitt romney led a support the draft rally at yale even if he didn’t plan to join the military himself.

  9. There are many things disgusting about Kelly but the most reprehensible is his use of his poor wife, Gabby, as a campaign prop.

I will, as I’ve done before with McSally and McCain before her, hold my nose and vote for her. It’s imperative for the health of the republic to keep the Senate out of the hands of sleazy Democrats (excuse the redundancy).
