I’m torturing myself as I write this post–by watching Palin do her RNC duty.
I’m frightened. She talks about being a champion for families with special-needs kids, and as a mom of a kid with an autism-spectrum disorder, I’m terrified to have her as my champion.
Palin’s speech is being interrupted, with protestors scattered about and being escorted out. That’s always fun to watch. Cindy McCain looks uncomfortable at certain points–that’s pretty fun to watch, too. And Palin’s youngest daughter, as if directed, licks her hand and then gently wets down her baby brother’s hair. Kind of a Little House on the Prairie moment.
The site I’m watching it on is a citizen journalism site called theuptake.org. What’s equally frightening is its live blog of people grossed out watching the little girl fix her brother’s hair with spit … hey, sorry, but this is a perfect moment, and folks ate it up.
Can’t wait to hear the pundits discuss it–and I wonder if any other special-needs moms out there are as disgusted as I am tonight.
But I’m also wondering if the deal was sealed tonight. Were swing voters seduced tonight with words like snow machine, hockey mom, and her hero, hero, hero, and better be your hero, too–John McCain?

I just love how elections bring out the goodness in all people, don’t you?
This article appears in Sep 4-10, 2008.

I just wish she had served as a Legislator for one or two terms so she could have a nice, consistent record of voting against governement funding for special needs programs. When she was speaking, I heard in my mind, “As a Legislator I voted against special needs education consistently for my two terms in the Alaskan Senate, but now that I have one let me tell you, I’m in favor of it!” But of course, she has no experience at all whatsoever doing anything except cattily running a small town like it was a Barbie Dreamhouse.
She reminded me of Celia Hoades from Weeds (the early Celia, not Celia after the fire) combined with Rexella Van Impe. And oddly, watching her is like watching Tina Fey imitate her… I mean she looks like she is doing an imitation of Tina Fey mocking her, even though this has yet to happen…
But I know many who are looking forward to Fey deliverng the good. I like the names folks have for her so far: Cariboo Barbee, and Tracy Fleck (sp.?) from Election…. those are pretty good, too.
I think the best we can hope for is that the Republicans have given up all hope for winning the election, and that “Sarah Palin” actually IS Tina Fey in makeup, and that this is all just a viral ad campaign for a movie that Fey will be releasing on the Friday after the Election. I mean, come on! Alaska? There’s no state called “Alaska”. I think they’re making it all up.
Alaska… that’s a laugh. Everyone knows that if you are trying to outrun child support on a suspended license (for DUI) and you’ve got a massive meth problem, you go to PHOENIX… not Alaska!
But seriously, Alaska is where people go when they’ve run out of options in every state. Do you have any idea what kind of incurable sociopath you have to be to end up in Alaska?
This Sarah Palin should be running for Head Cheerleader, not VP.
Did you know there are more people living in the Washington DC area that in the entire state of Alaska?
After the gray-haired dude croaks, I can’t wait for a the Palin-Putin face-off! If we’re lucky, in a vat of creamed corn!
“The Republican National Committee’s 2008 convention draft platform pledges to continue waging the right’s war on sex education. The platform reads: ‘We support abstinence education and oppose school-based clinics that provide referrals, counseling, and related services for abortion and contraception.'”
No contraception education and no social services to help teen mothers. You gotta love them Republicans!
I can opnly imagine what that crowd woud’ve done had say Joe Biden’s daughter been the one “having a child out of wedlock”.
The hypocrisy is thick as shit with the Reps. John Stewart nailed it a couple days ago. I don’t understand why the “real” news can’t so side-by-side hypocrisy alerts. Too busy inhaling hairspray before they go “on” I suppose.
