Hillary Clinton must think it will help her win votes, and it won’t lose her votes, and man, does it pump up her supporters. Added bonus: it’s exactly what she should do if/when she’s elected president.

Here’s what Hillary said at her rally with Elizabeth Warren in Cincinnati, Ohio, on Monday, June 27.

“I have made a pledge. I will not raise taxes on the middle class, but we are going to raise taxes on corporations and the wealthy.”

I can’t find any wiggle words in that statement. Twenty-six words, 20 of them one syllable (22 if you include “taxes”), the only word over two syllables is “corporations.” Simple, direct, to the point, and understandable by every voter who hears it. Tax the wealthy. Tax corporations. Instead of giving them tax breaks, make them pay their fair share. And don’t add to the tax burden of the struggling middle class.

I’m not running for office so it’s not my ass on the line, but I think Arizona would respond well to that pitch from its Democratic candidates. It could give some Democratic voters who plan to skip the election a reason to vote for you, and it could pull in a few disaffected, undecided voters who know they’re being screwed while the wealthy are making out like bandits. It sure beats hell out of reinforcing the Republican mantra, “No new taxes,” by pretending we can fund state services adequately with the money we have, along with, maybe, a little extra by getting rid of a few tax breaks for corporations.

Democrats in safe districts, why not give it a try? Democrats in tougher districts, who knows, it just might make things a little less safe for Republicans.

  1. In 1980, the top 1% of all taxpayers had an Adjusted Gross Income of $80,000 and paid $47 billion in taxes. Adjusting that for inflation, taxpayers making more than $240,000 in AGI in 2007 paid $500 billion in taxes. It was exactly as predicted by supply side theory predicted. $500 billion isn’t a trickle, it isn’t a gusher, it is a Tsunami. And, they paid that $500 billion at a much lower tax rate, again exactly as supply side theory predicted. Picketty is a complete fraud. Picketty’s France did not create a single hour of work from 1980 to 2007 while the United States moved from 94 million jobs to 138 million.

  2. This woman is a liar, a fool and an idiot. Tax increases on corporations caused many of us to watch our jobs leave the country. Regulations destroyed many more. Americans pay the highest corporate tax rates in the world.

First why don’t we talk about how much our health insurance costs went down. How many times will you allow these people to lie to you?

Liars lie. It’s what they do.

  3. Do not forget that politicians are flooding the US with immigrants from other countries, just exactly as the EU is doing to Europe.

    Why?

  4. Watch out for the sleight of hand that is going on with Obama and friends. All the while trashing Trump University, they have driven down value of stock in these schools. Well guess who wants to buy The University of Phoenix.

    Obama’s buddies.

As the Obama administration cracks down on for-profit colleges, three former officials working on behalf of an investment firm run by President Barack Obama’s best friend have staged a behind-the-scenes campaign to get the Education Department to green-light a purchase of the biggest for-profit of them all — the University of Phoenix.

  5. “Do not forget that politicians are flooding the US with immigrants from other countries, just exactly as the EU is doing to Europe.

    Why?”

wow, people immigrating to the united states what a new concept. we have never allowed that before in history.

  6. Although I don’t believe she’ll do it, since the owners of those corporations are the Clintons’ best friends, the people who have posted here are ignoring the reality of how little corporations pay compared to us, the regular people. It’s one of the reasons we’re in such trouble. Here are two mainstream news outlets (USA Today and CBS, and there are dozens more, just look it up) saying clearly that 20% of corporations are paying NOTHING in income taxes and the ones that do pay taxes pay at a much lower rate than we peons do. Trickle-down has never worked (just look up the corporate tax rate under Reagan). Why do you all keep defending billionaires? they don’t care about you at all.

  7. And you think politicians do? Continue to deny trickle down…but tell us who has the most money in Nicaragua, a country with NO food. It’s daniel Ortega’s daughter.

How long will you wait for trickle up to work, eight more years?

  8. This is exactly how the woman known as Hillary Clinton operates:

WASHINGTON (AP) — Longtime Hillary Clinton aide Huma Abedin said in a legal proceeding that Clinton did not want the State Department emails that she sent and received on her private computer server to be accessible to “anybody,” according to transcripts released Wednesday. Her comments provided new insights into the highly unusual decision by the presumptive Democratic presidential candidate to operate a private email server in her basement to conduct government business as secretary of state.

    Just “highly unusual?”

    http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/U/US_CLINTON_EMAILS?SITE=AP&SECTION=HOME&TEMPLATE=DEFAULT&CTIME=2016-06-29-17-38-07

Huma’s husband is former (disgraced) Congressman Anthony Weiner

Of youtube fame. These guys really do get around.

  9. Hillary won’t raise taxes on the middle class? How kind of her. But will she stop the loan-peddling banks and tuition-consulting-discouting firms from turning the children of the middle class into indentured servants? The cost of higher education in the best institutions has gone up 300% in the last 30 years, and the amount of loans middle class students are being encouraged to take on, with the (unlikely) notion that a 4-year undergraduate degree will enable them to step into a decent-paying, secure job has also climbed precipitously — and insanely.

It’s a shell game, David. Do you actually not recognize this, or is this just more of your standard issue party-hackery? The Democratic party line is being written by corporations and the financial industry just as much as any other party line. The Democrats pretend to take it out of them in one area and then feed it back into them in another area.

Hillary did a great job kicking Sanders to the curb, and now her army of media buddies, high (NYTimes) and low (Safier etc.) are busy manufacturing pseudo-progressive reasons to vote for her. Real progressives know better.

  10. Hilary feints left (thank you, Bernie) while the Democratic National Committee Platform continues to deny support for canning the TPP, the $15.00/hr minimum wage and a ban on fracking.

    http://www.democracynow.org/2016/6/27/head…

She takes millions from Wall Streeters in speeches and then plans on tearing them down? Does that include her son in law the Hedge Fund Manager? She and her husband have made hundreds of millions in speeches to Wall Street, big Pharma and Big Energy, more than 100 Americans earn in their lifetimes.

Trump is a complete disaster and Hilary is not far behind. Congratulations to the Democratic Party, they are nominating the only candidate with a real possibility of losing to the most ridiculous candidate in US history.

  11. Trump is looking better every day. Bill Clinton should never have met with the AG on the tarmac at Sky Harbor. Unbelievable! The Clintons are always right next to crimes.

  12. Rick Spanier:

I couldn’t have put it into better words.

If Chump wins, it will confirm to that we live in a country full of short sighted idiot voters. If Billary wins, it will not be too much different than if Chump wins.

It’s a real lose/lose situation. Worst election year EVER. DC

  13. “I have solved this political dilemma in a very direct way: I don’t vote. On Election Day, I stay home. I firmly believe that if you vote, you have no right to complain. Now, some people like to twist that around. They say, ‘If you don’t vote, you have no right to complain,’ but where’s the logic in that? If you vote, and you elect dishonest, incompetent politicians, and they get into office and screw everything up, you are responsible for what they have done. You voted them in. You caused the problem. You have no right to complain. I, on the other hand, who did not vote — who did not even leave the house on Election Day — am in no way responsible for that these politicians have done and have every right to complain about the mess that you created.”

  14. Debra,

Care to bet that Lynch will be named a Clinton Supreme Court nominee after she kills the FBI investigation into Hilary’s email fiasco?

Read Clintons Cash. I thought it would be a Koch Bros hatchet job until I read the endorsement by the progressive economist and philanthropist Jeff Sachs. The film version will air on the eve of the Dem’s national convention. Should be interesting.

  15. Hey 13!

    1)Here:

*I included this link because there are other great ones here besides what I posted.

    *And here:

    http://thinkexist.com/quotation/i-don-t-vo…

    https://m.facebook.com/GeorgeCarlinQuotes/…

*These are slightly different versions of the one I previously posted.

*This quote is also included on one of the albums/HBO specials from (I think) the early ’90s, although I couldn’t find it in my search. If you figure it out, please don’t hesitate to leave a post here.

*But heck, why just read it when you can watch it:

B)Also, here’s some bonus Carlin for ya, because you can NEVER have enough Carlin:
    http://jamesaquilone.com/101-greatest-geor…

    4)More bonus Carlin:
    https://en.m.wikiquote.org/wiki/George_Car…

Okay, I’m finally through. Carlin was the master. He was one of those rare comedians that could do lowbrow and deep thought comedy almost perfectly. The only other comedian that could pull that off, IMHO, was Bill Hicks. It truly blows that neither of them are with us anymore. DC

  16. Well that didn’t take but three days. Loretta Lynch (AG) has blocked access to the Clinton Foundation emails for 27 months. Isn’t that odd? This is loads more important than Watergate. It may actually have the Hillary emails that they have been hiding.

Our confidence in these liars is completely gone. Every day is a new fraud.

  17. Perhaps this was the very subject Bill Clinton and Lynch were discussing during their coincidental encounter at Sky Harbor airport. Oh ! I’m sure it had nothing to do with the ongoing investigation of Hilary’s E-Mails or the possible corruption within the Clinton Foundation or perhaps the Benghazi incident that took the lives of four of our countrymen. Heck ! we don’t believe one single word those Marines have to say about not engaging the enemy and what not. We love you Hilary and we know you would never lie to the American people.

  18. Hello again CW!

I couldn’t just give up and not give you all the information you so righteously deserve. Here’s the album/HBO special where that quote is from:

    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Back_in_To…

Another bonus! The extended version of the YouTube link I posted above, which is the end of the Back in Town performance:

    https://m.youtube.com/#/watch?v=xIraCchPDh…

I would’ve included all this in my last post, but I got impatient; then I decided that I had to at least figure it out for myself or I would become more bonkers than I already am. Now ya got enough Carlin to keep you busy for a long time. I’ll leave you alone now. I promise. DC

  19. Rat T: Steven Wright fits more into, what I would call, the “absurdist” category. He’s great and all, don’t get me wrong, but when it comes to someone who could make people laugh their ass off with a dick joke and within a minute comment on the downward spiral of American culture which makes the listener give serious thought to what they just heard…Carlin was (and although he’s dead still is) the KING! Mr. Wright doesn’t dabble in smut humour or deep thought humour, but, I give you this, the dude is hilarious and he’s got one thing going which Carlin doesn’t…he’s still sucking air. Thanks for reading! DC

  20. DC.
I guess you found something else we have in common. We both love stand up comedy and we both know Carlin ruled. I was still in High School when I first started watching him. My mom turned me on to him. He used to appear on some late afternoon variety show. After watching him 2 or 3 times he vanished. I remember he was a clean cut young man in a suit and tie, clean shaven and neatly barbered. About a year later my mom said she spotted In the T.V. Guide that Carlin would be on Johnny Carson tonite. When Carson introduced him, I couldn’t believe it. Bell bottom jeans, blue denim shirt, a full Gerry Garcia beard and hair down to his shoulders. Not to mention to the trained eye he was zonked but good. I spotted it right away. Takes one to know one, I guess. My mom asked what the Hell happened to him? I explained it was simple. It seems Mr. Carlin has discovered the joys of cannabis. I didn’t add just like her son. He mixed great comedy with stoner humor. Al Sleet the hippie dippie weatherman comes to mind.
I really appreciate you finding those sites for me. I think I found a way to save a lot of typing ( which I suck at ) Google YouTube. Type in George Carlin in the search spot. Bingo. There are dozens of Carlin skits on it. Try it. I know what I’ll be doing all day.
    Thanks for all the help.

  21. You’re welcome 13. I’m happy to oblige. I’m glad that something as petty as opposite political views doesn’t keep us from having good taste in entertainment. Until next time. DC

  22. Evading tax is a biggest crime that you can ever commit to the economy! People should be thoroughly punished and be given maximum punishment. There are many lawyers who deal with such cases all over the world for ex, one Mr. Bechara Tarabay, ( http://twitter.com/bechara56 ) and ensure that such offenses are not committed.
