Penn Professor and bioethicist Arthur Caplan is challenging Michele Bachmann’s anti-HPV vaccination scare tactics:

If she can produce a case in one week starting today verified by three medical experts that she and i pick of a woman who became ‘retarded’ (her words) due to HPV vaccine i will donate that to a charity of her choice. She must donate 10k to a charity I pick if she fails to do so.

My guess is Bachmann just ignores this challenge, but it gets out in the media enough, maybe she’ll have to address it, no?

  1. this vaccine could be the most impotant med for young girls and they will destroy the very cancer free lives of young girls, just to run for an office they truely digust me

You’d think that by now (after her wrong comments about the Founding Father’s, wishing Elvis a Happy Birthday on the anniversary of his death, and others) that her staff would better prepare her for this sort of thing…can you imagine the drivel or right out lies that would come out of her administration if she became President?

    But, this is another classic example of the Republican Parties double standard of reduced government in our lives yet legislating a vaccine for young girls. It is a disease that passed through certain behavoirs and not passively contagious like sitting in a room with somebody who has the chicken pox…so, what is the penalty for not accepting the vaccine…and if there is one, then this law is unconstitional…in my opinion.

  3. Wow, I’ve talked to Democrats and Liberals that think that all vaceins are responsible for a multitude of ills in children. All due to a disgraced doctor in Britian. His “research” has been debunked, he admitted to lying about his “research”, and he lost his medical license. The fact remains that vacines do work, and the hysteria caused by a fraud has led to parents not protecting theid children from diseases. I don not agree that the HPV vacine caused any mental problem in a child, she probably had the problem to begin with, and the parent is looking for money from a lawsuit.

    Bachmann, of course, may be crazy like a fox or stupid like a stupid for preaching to it, but that’s a whole ‘nother thing…it’s the Palin question again: what does she want?

  5. I doubt Bachmann distinguishes (or possibly even knows the difference) between a retarded person and one with autism. Of course links between autism and other vaccines have been discredited. And further, I don’t think this vaccine has ever been linked to autism even.
