We’ve got some new Tastykake info via Matt Russell this morning:

To all Tasty fans in AZ and other parts far from Philly: Please excuse our growing pains!
We’re sorry you may be unable to find your favorite Tasty item in your area. As we expand Tastykake into new markets, we have to take into careful account a number of important matters—including maintaining quality and freshness and distribution logistics and costs. While most Tastykake items are available in our distribution area, we are simply not able to distribute certain classic Tastykake items in a way that preserves the high quality and freshness we’re known for. We appreciate your patience while we fix these issues and hope you enjoy other Tastykake items.

It appears to be from the TastyKake Facebook page, as seen here.

See what happens when people rattle a cage?

Just a note: Apparently, the folks over at Frankie’s Cheesesteaks are in talks with Tastykake corporate about the ‘Kakes. If you’re interested in joining the fight, it would probably be worth the time for you to send your thoughts to those folks via their website or Facebook page.

  1. What this idiot fails to realize is that they were already being sold here! This isn’t an expansion of anything, this is continuing to sell in a market where you already had a strong presence! Was Tastykake bought out by some sixth-graders in Utah?

  2. Fry’s does sell some of the product line but not all. I have not been able to find my favorite, the Butterscotch Krimpet.

The D-M Commissary used to sell their products up until the sale and purchase of the company too. They have not brought them back or TastyKake has not set up distribution of their product with them yet.

I hope this is fixed. My stock is rapidly declining from my recent Pennsylvania trip due to over consumption of the Krimpets! 🙂

  3. @Ldonyo – Not sure if they are in 6th grade, but they were bought by Flour Foods, who in turn gave exclusive distribution rights to Wholesome Foods who decided that the great people at Frankie’s did not eat enough (even though the numbers were around 1500-2000 units a month) tastycakes for them to bother with.

  4. I feel that there seems to have been a mixup in comment intent here. Ldonyo appears to be on the “wtf is Tastykake corporate thinking?” tip, rather than the “pfft the Weekly writer is an idiot” tip.

At least, that’s what I’ve taken from it.

On that note, nice info, B-Mak.

  5. horrible move cutting off the small philly shops. cant get them out here in az anymore. bad move guys. i use to buy $3ooo worth a month.
