Tonight on Arizona Public Media’s Political Roundtable: Pima County Democratic Party chairman Jeff Rogers, National Republican Committeeman Bruce Ash, Tucson City Councilman Steve Kozachik and Democratic strategist Rodd McLeod examine Gov. Jan Brewer’s decision to reject a state-run health-insurance exchange; the Democrats’ successful sweep of competitive congressional districts; Sen. John McCain’s campaign against U.S. Ambassador the United Nations Susan Rice; Sen. Jon Kyl’s proposed DREAM Act alternative, the ACHIEVE Act; Gov. Jan Brewer’s decision to prohibit DREAM Act kids from getting driver’s licenses; the TUSD school closures; and the future of TUSD’s Mexican-American Studies program. Just wish we’d had time to talk about how Congressman Raul Grijalva nearly crashed the stock market….

Steve Kozachik, should run for Governor, of the state of Arizona.
Way to go Janbo, get tough. Should actually deport these dream kids along with Grijalva. And for the mexican – American studies, let them go south for the winter and stay there, no wonder TUSD has such low ratings. Time this state restores Arizona and the United States of America.
Closing Sewell is an injust for all students in TUSD, as Kozachik said, it is 67% minority, and is the best school in his district! It is also full to capacity, and has two portables. We all know what is going to happen with school closures, they are going to add 10 portables to ADE grade D schools and cram the kids in there. Why not condense failing schools (which are half full) instead of targeting the only ADE Grade B school targeted for closure, which is Sewell.
We’ve been told that if Sewell had only a couple more portables (increased capacity) the school would be saved. So basically, all the school district is looking at is stuff unrelated to quality.
I’m going to vote for Steve Kozachik as he is standing up for quality education, while the TUSD school board has made a rash and nonsensical decision on Sewell.
AZ consistantly ranks in the bottom five in education in the country and since they are already 50th in funding, they felt the need to destroy the progress that minorities have made here in Tucson. Thus, they ended the MAS program. They didn’t say there were problems because thenthe reasonable approach would have been to fix them. They just killed the program.
I support all of Brewers policies except for her stance on abortion.
A lib reporter and 3 libs (1 a Tucson City Councilmember who is left of blue-dog Democrat) square off against 1 Conservative named Ash. Intrllectually this seems a reasonably fair balance.
Political BS, the decision not to send cops to an Auto accident is crazy, when so many people do not have insurance on their vehicles, I for one have been hit by a non insurance driver and he would not even show his registration, when I called the Police they said that they won’t come to the scene of the accident unless there is injuries, and when you go to the Police station, they tell you that they won’t do any reports unless there is injuries, so think about it, before you wonder why people are getting so violent.
Thankfully we have Jan Brewer.
My grandson is only in 4th grade, and he has attended two schools, both of which were closed by the TUSD school board. How can we expect children to do well when every school they attend is either closed down or over-crowded?
