SHITZOPHRENIA
UA AREA
JAN. 24, 7:32 A.M.
An apparently demented man wrote on a bathroom wall with his own excrement, a University of Arizona Police Department report stated.
At the UA library, 1510 E. University Blvd., a campus custodian reported that she heard loud grunting noises from the main-floor men’s bathroom. She said she opened the door to see a male moving around in the bathroom while yelling indecipherable sounds. A male custodian was called and entered the bathroom to see defecation running down the inside wall of a stall. When the custodian left the bathroom, the male who’d been yelling followed him out, then went to sit in a stairwell.
The subject was found there by a UA police officer, who verified that fecal matter had been wiped on the bathroom wall. According to the report, the subject had defecated on the floor and then “scribbled” something on the wall of the stall with the resulting feces. The subject admitted to doing this, explaining that while he was “using the bathroom,” some voices told him to “wipe shit” on the wall.
The man was booked at Pima County Jail for criminal damage and malicious mischief and banned from the UA campus.
PEEP SHOW WITH EGGS
NORTH MONA LISA ROAD
JAN. 10, 10:05 P.M.
A woman was spied on while cooking in the nude, according to a Pima County Sheriff’s Department report.
A northwest-side female told the reporting deputy she’d been boiling eggs in the kitchen of her apartment without any clothes on at about 8:53 p.m., when she received a telephone call from a male neighbor she knew. That neighbor told her he thought he’d just seen a man peeping into her kitchen window. She said she then realized her blinds were slightly open.
Looking out the window, she said she saw a male standing in the pool enclosure 6 to 8 feet away from her apartment, recognizing him as the husband of a woman who lived in the apartment complex.
After she put some clothes on, she said, she went outside to confront the man but decided not to when she saw him walk past. She said if the man had taken the most direct route from the pool to his wife’s apartment, he would not have had to pass her own apartment.
The victim asked law enforcement not to speak with the subject until she’d discussed the incident with the apartment-complex manager.

Good thing she was boiling eggs and not frying bacon.
To my good friends at the Tucson Weekly,
As kind and gentle as you usually are, you continue to include these “humorous” Police Dispatches that belittle and degrade individuals with mental illness. Please stop. It’s not funny; its extremely hurtful. Those I know and work with who live with mental illness suffer from enough self-doubt and self stigma. Many are living fulfilling and productive lives, and memories of their past actions while in a psychotic state still haunt them.
The man in your most recent Police Dispatch (distastefully titled Shitzophrenia) will likely come out of this episode of illness filled with shame. This is incredibly sad, because its not his fault. Knowing that others not only witnessed his actions but mocked them (and wrote about them in a weekly paper) only adds to this unnecessary shame and may be part of impeding his recovery.
Tucson Weekly, you know better. You have printed several articles promoting the respect and dignity of individuals with mental illness, many within the last year. About four years ago I was named a Local Hero for working with people recovering from mental illness at Our Place Clubhouse. Please stop making fun of people who are disabled, by mental illness or anything else. Its not funny; its destructive…and personally, I don’t think it fits who you are. Thanks for listening.
I have to agree with Roxanne…not only does that put them DOWN people with mental illness if you are slow it makes them not to sure about getting help since you all decided to use it for laughs. As well as the problem of people with mental illness the local companies that are supposed to help the patients often just pass out drugs that are more harm then good. Not taking into consideration the side effects of each person and the family members of the patient. Many times when people use the world Crazy it puts people with mental illness further into the black hole. That makes the conditions worse and can result in suicide. Now the person that wrote that hope you feel like major crap. Ohh and make sure you understand that not only did you hurt people suffering from mental illness but families and family members suffering and coping with the change of that member. Hmmm I am SMHing Shaking My Head also saying No Ya Didn’t and don’t care if I have typos so there!!!
