Because what Tucson’s largest school district could use right now is more chaos and instability, John Pedicone is set to resign his post as superintendent, with a press conference scheduled for 12:30. More news as it comes, but according to one source, the board’s decision not to pursue out-sourcing was the last straw for Pedicone.

The editor of the Tucson Weekly. I have no idea how I got here.

  1. I can’t blame the guy. I think he really wanted to come in and help the district. He doesn’t need all this crap though.

  2. Perhaps the board that made that hire in the fist places should have considered the “chaos and instability” to come.

  3. SonoranWinds: To be fair, the Star had the story up around the same time we did. Dylan definitely had the jump on this one. We’ll try to make it up with our coverage of the story as it unfolds.

  4. John has been an outstanding educator and administrator in the Tucson community for decades. It’s a pity the board didn’t back him on this. Guess they figure they have better answers. Good luck TUSD.

  5. When I was re-hired by TUSD, I really had high hopes when I heard John Pedicone speak at our kick-off in 2011. Now I find myself a casualty of yet another year of budget cuts and another round of RIFs (lay-offs), so his hasty exit does not surprise me. Yet another cork is pulled from the sinking ship that is education in this state. The real casualties, though, are the students. It’s all such a huge waste…
