As the number of citations grow and the court options dwindle, Occupy Tucson protestors have taken to avoiding police the same way that primitive man might have avoided predators: They climbed up into trees when the police came by.

Here’s a press release from Occupy Tucson’s Alex Maldonado:

In a rare direct action/resistance by Occupy Tucson, not seen across the nation thus far, occupiers climbed the trees of Veinte de Agosto Park before the 10:30pm citation time.

At approximately 11pm, the Tucson Police Department notified Occupy Tucson stating that there would be no enforcement, nor citations for staying in the park after hours for the night.

Several writers and two local television news stations were present to document the action, and reaction of TPD.

Could this be the move that could bring both the City of Tucson and Occupy Tucson to the negotiating table or is this a sign of a possible moratorium on citations?

  1. In the words of the great Officer Bimbeau: “Lemme tell you buttholes somethin’! This shit’s wwaaayyyyy outta line! And you squirrels better have some nuts in your mouth… or you’re goin’ downtown!”

  2. Everyone around the country is tired of this crap. A lot of cities are tearing down these camps and sending the campers on their way. They are breaking the law. They want to cry about their rights…..well what about our rights? We follow the laws and so should they. We break the law we get fined or jail time…well so should they. I may fall into the so called 99% but I can speak for myself just like most of the other people out here. The people in the Occupy don’t seem to know why they are there. They show up at different functions that interfere with the common people. Not all things are bad and I am sure we can figure these things out for ourselves. You people need to go take a bath and get a job like most people and quit bumming. In other words GET A LIFE and quit interfering with the rest of us….

  3. here we go. one of these clowns will fall out the tree, get hurt, then file a law suit against the city for having tall trees in a public park.

enough already, just send these vagrants home, or better yet put them on a bus to phoenix. we have our share of bums in this town already.

  4. Way to go–taking it to the trees! The Occupiers are speaking Truth to Power…something that has been sorely lacking in the political system, and throughout government and Corporate media. These heroes have changed the conversation from “debt crisis” to “job crisis”. They’ve turned the focus to the 1% who dictate to Congress from K Street and Wall St. They consist of medical professionals, lawyers and other employed people; as well as homeless and unemployed. They’ve brought facts about homeless families living in cars to light. They’re neither going away or backing down. Although many have been evicted from parks in various cities, what you’re seeing, (if you don’t rely on Corporate news and get info from Internet sites), is Phase 2 beginning. They’re stepping up the conversation. Don’t count on TV news to give you the whole story. My entire family and I thank them wholeheartedly for their bravery and dedication. I support Occupy Tucson and goto occupystream.com to be a live witness to occupations throughout the world.

  5. FED audit reveals 26 TRILLION in bailouts. if you think people shouldn’t be occupying then you lack the basic intelligence to survive. the global elite, are directly and deliberately bankrupting the US and the world. its about domination, not free markets vs. socialism. too few have become too powerful and the ties that bind the power to washington must go. this is a time of vast and sweeping change. protect the lower and middle classes from utter ruin, and OCCUPY a cause. go tree people, go !!!! former rep. alan grayson reveals 26 trillion in FED bailouts : http://current.com/shows/countdown/videos/…

  6. Another bunch of IDIOTS, Use this time to find a dam job,What ALL the citys need to do is CHARGE all these idiots with the bill that it has cost these citys to put up with their crap. HELL throw all of them in jail till its paid, They do it for tickets, Do it for this..
Its not the citys or taxpayors that got all the Stimulus money, it was FRIENDS of Obumma, BIG BANKS, Crooked morgage companys..

  7. The city wastes tax dollars fighting with peaceful occupiers that could go to, you know, actually fighting crime. I read an excellent article yesterday suggesting local authorities send social service workers instead of police to help occupiers around the country deal with the homeless and disenfranchised who come hoping for safety and a meal.

daddycrc, stimulus money was was badly needed and way too small. What we needed and still need was more like FDR’s CCC. At least 14 million more people are looking for work than there are jobs for them. And there are too few jobs because companies don’t have enough customers to warrant hiring more workers. It’s a downward cycle.

The big banks cheated and lost, and millions of unemployed and foreclosed-upon Americans are paying the bill. Federal bailout money you meant,(not stimulus), went to the big banks around the world. We recently discovered it was actually around $8 Trillion we paid out, through the Fed.

  8. I am the 99%. I had a 27 year career as an engineer, went back to school, finished in 2009, and have not worked a regular job since. I have a wife, kids in college (fortunately, they are intelligent enough to get scholarships, like me), a home, two cars, although one is beyond repair with my limited funds. We are living on my wife’s unemployment, mine expired. I look for work everyday. I do not need a bath, I am not a bum.
The angry, nasty negative comments only reflect on the lack of compassion shown to some very hurt people who have spent time in a system that does not recognize their value. Please come to the general assembly on Saturdays at 3 pm. I would love to show you my resume. Maybe you can help me find work?
