Secretary of State Ken Bennett is seemingly planning on running for Governor in 2014, so maybe this is his angle to appeal to the crazy people of our state, but seriously, we have to do this birther stuff again? Even Jan Brewer thinks this stuff is nuts. When some sort of conservative nutjobbery is a bridge too far for Jan Brewer, you have to realize you’re treading on especially fringe-y ground. As one of my friends on Facebook put it, “You can’t spell crazy without AZ.”
The man in charge of running Arizona’s elections has gone to the birthers. Secretary of State Ken Bennett now says he’s not convinced Barack Obama was really born in the United States and so he is threatening to keep the president off the ballot in November.Bennett’s comments came in an interview late Thursday with conservative radio talk show host Mike Broomhead on Phoenix station KFYI.
Bennett said he was following the lead of the state’s eccentric Sheriff Joe Arpaio, a fellow Republican who ordered an investigation into the president’s birth certificate last year and concluded the document released by the White House is a forgery. Bennett said he is now trying to get verification from state officials in Hawaii that the certificate is authentic.

On Thursday, Bennett said he sent his request to Hawaii officials eight weeks ago but has yet to get the proof he was hoping for. He said he didn’t want another copy of the birth certificate. He wants Hawaii to give him what he described as “a verification in lieu of a certified copy of a birth certificate.”
In the weeks since then, Bennett said, Hawaii officials have forced him to provide proof that he is who he says he is. They asked him to send them copies of the Arizona laws that prove the secretary of state really is the person in charge of handling the ballots. Admittedly, Bennett said they told him they were “tired of all the requests.” But he is continuing anyway.
Broomhead, the radio host, pressed Bennett on what he would do if he didn’t get the right response back from Hawaii.
“If they won’t comply, if they refuse to comply with this, will you remove the president from the ballot?” Broomhead asked. “Will you exclude him from the ballot?”
“That’s possible,” Bennett said. “Or the other option would be I would ask all of candidates, including the president, maybe to submit a certified copy of their birth certificate. But I don’t want to do that.”

Guess why Bennett doesn’t want to ask for a Certified Copy of the birth certificate? Because Obama would provide that copy and end the silly BS that he is running. Instead he asks for ‘verification’ which is idiotic, no state has a birth certificate ‘verification’ process. The day they accepted the birth certificate into the official records of the state, it became certified. They can, in fact issue other ‘certified’ copies simply by viewing and copying information from that original. Obviously this is just a shoddy publicity stunt.
Has he asked Romney for his birth certificate? This is not an empty threat. This man is our Sec. of State. Why is Tucson Weekly the only media outlet that is reporting this?

Great idea Douglas. Everyone’s thinking Obama and Co. must be keeping that issue alive to keep people from discussing things like war crimes, NDAA, Monsanto’s FDA, Occupy crackdown, submission to AIPAC, Operation Fast and Furious, humanitarian plunder in Libya and Syria, bogus Iranian nukes, antics in Yemen, the burial at sea with no pictures of the body, the show trial against three people who were tortured into confessing the crimes of 9/11, the failure to prosecute banksters, the lack of BP justice, etc.
Seems that ‘idiotic act’ of asking for verification runs into other issues. (Don’t know why, but a long form certificate shouldn’t be hard to produce).

The white house released his long form birth certificate last year. If you want to actually hear the news, you’ve got to read or listen to more than just republican favored sources. A simple google search will bring up his long form birth certificate.
I wish old people understood information availability on the internet.
Why does anyone visit Arizona? or Why does anyone even live in that state? Are corporations really going to hold meetings and conventions in Arizona? The are other states available that have not gone insane.

Bennett was born in Tucson into a family that were members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormons).
He replaced Jan Brewer when she left the office of Arizona Secretary of State and just rides up the ladder on her coat tails.
He’s related to former Utah Sen. Bob Bennett who was ousted by the Tea Party and replaced with Mike Lee who just lost his expensive house in Alpine to a short sale by the bank.
They’re all a bunch of religious nutcases.

Obama affixed his name to a document when he agreeded that John McCain
was a natural born citizen because both John’s parents were US citizens
at the time of John’s birth.
