  1. According to the Douglas Police Department they received a 911 call about drugs being loaded into a gold Chevy Avalanche, he was identified as suspicious while driving the very same Chevy Avalanche through the area, when he noticed the law enforcement officials following/attempting to pull him over he turned around and sped towards the border at a high speed. Border Patrol was contacted and tried to intercede at the border, literally hitting La Madrid vehicle. At the border he attempted to cross over the border into Mexico via a ladder which had been hoisted for them. What happened at the border is still a mystery, BP says they were under attack from rock throwers, either way Carlos was shot 3 times in the back. This was captured by cameras on towers, however the quality is supposedly pretty bad because of the dust and prevailing winds which also prevented Carlos from being medevac’d to Tucson.

It was reported that 48.2 pounds of Marijuana was found in his vehicle. A little over a year later his sister, Martha LaMadrid was arrested as she was trafficking 160 lbs of marijuana.

I hope the agent who shot Carlos is held responsible for his actions under the law. However the DOJ does not have a very good track record and this will probably drag on for a long time.

As to painting a mural in the heart of Tucson which celebrates a drug smuggler? PATHETIC

There are so many better choices to choose as a symbol of the border reform movement. Here are two which come to mind:

    1. Jose Antonio Elena Rodriguez

    2. Anastasio Hernandez Rojas

I encourage everyone reading this to look these two people up. Both were killed by our Border Patrol under extremely suspicious circumstances, it could be said that they were murdered.

So many innocent people have been murdered by Border Patrol agents, why not choose one of them? Choosing to idolize Carlos La Madrid, a drug smuggler, is a bad choice and will stymie any appeal to middle of the road US citizens and only bolster the opposition of the right.

While the killing of Carlos is an embarrassment for the Border Patrol, this mural is an embarrassment for the city of Tucson. Loose, Loose.

His mother, Guadalupe Guerrero, must feel a lot of guilt and must feel partly responsible. Two of her children became drug smugglers and one died as a direct result. Sad.

  2. Actually the drug issue makes Carlos Madrid the perfect choice. If drugs were legal there would be no more need to smuggle them into a country which has an insatiable appetite for them. Lethal force on someone running a way makes little sense other than to confirm that the U.S. draws closer to a police state and wishes to militarize the border and the military shoots first and asks questions later.
