If you’re traveling to Nevada, make sure to leave your concealed carry weapons at home — officials from the Silver State have decided that they’ll no longer recognize CCW permits issued by Arizona. Apparently, Arizona’s training requirements are too lax for Nevada officials to abide by.
From the Associated Press, via the AZ Capitol Times:
The decision takes effect this week, after a unanimous vote last Thursday from the Nevada Sheriffs’ and Chiefs’ association.
Association officials say Las Vegas firearm instructors first notified them about the changes in the training requirements.
Nevada Department of Public Safety officials say they contacted the Arizona Department of Public Safety and confirmed changes were made in 2010 and 2011.
Those include adjustments to the minimum training requirements, and the elimination of statutory marksmanship and judgmental shooting requirements.
Association officials say the requirements are now too different from Nevada’s for the state to recognize the permits.
So we’re clear, this means that a state with a fairly easy-going reputation on personal liberties (gambling, prostitution and, yes, gun ownernship,) has decided that Arizona is making it too easy for people to carry weapons wherever they want.
Something to consider.

well lets just not go there, keep az. money in az., their loss!
I guess the rappers killing each other on the Strip last month missed the memo. Oh wait, they weren’t from AZ, so it must not have happened….
There are a few things in life we can count on happening all the time. The sun rising in the east, hot summers in Tucson, the cooling rains of the monsoon and the tucson weekly posting any story, no matter how obscure, that ultimately paints AZ in a less than flattering light. Especially if it comes to private ownership of firearms.
Since we can carry concealed without a permit in AZ, one of the main purposes of an AZ permit is to be able to carry in other States. So, the requirements for the permit should be brought up to the level where other States are willing to honor it. It’s in our own interest.
AZ concealed carry laws are a joke. Reinstate the training requirement NOW!!
I live in AZ and have a permits in AZ and Nevada. AZ’s permit course is very relaxed and always has been compared to other states. I actually couldn’t believe they recognized it in the first place knowing the contrast in training programs of each state. Oh well, it was short lived. Im still crossing my fingers for a national carry permit.
az dont go to Las vegas or Laughton or any of the other Neveda establishment They are all Obama lovers anyhow !!!!!!
Leaving your security at home, as the Weekly suggests, is not a good idea from a self-defense standoint. Nevada is an open carry state, just like Arizona. Stick it on your hip and be done with it!
As to training standards, you are required to get training to get an Az Permit. I have been teaching the CCW class for 18 years now, and my standards have not changed. If you have a DD-214 from any branch of service, you don’t have to take the class. I think that’s a reasonable standard. Why whould we make ourselves less free, to beg for something from Nevada?

Isn’t open carry legal in NV? So just OC there.
Charles Heller Thank you for pointing out this erroneous article!! Folks I am a CCW student of Charles and he cuts his students NO SLACK – I know I am well-equipped to NOT use or use my defensive tool thanks to the class!
The State of whores, denies Arizonans the right of passage? Sounds more like an attack against gun rights and the State of Arizona to me. Somebody better call Mark Kelly and tell him not to take his new .45 to Nevada.
ONce again these posts move away from good discussion into the dark political mind of the social misfits. Leave the hate and rants for someplace else, like your garage.
I am a CCW holder here in God’s country and
don’t have to cross Hoover Dam ever! There is NOTHING in their liberal state except for an overcrowded strip with outrageous prices, and rappers shooting at each other. If I feel the need to throw my money away, it can be done at the Talking Stick! Since they have decided to pass judgement against AZ because they don’t
think our CCW training measures up to theirs, maybe we should whisper in Gov’s ear and make the immediate announcement that we no longer will recognize NEVADA ‘ S CCW PERMITS!!!!!
The hell with them and the horse they rode in on!!!!!!!
I agree, why should we recognize states that doesn’t recognize ours, like California. Doesn’t make sense to me. Go figure!
