Nelson Mandela, world humanitarian and former South African President, has died. The news came from South African President Jacob Zuma during a press conference late Thursday.

“He is now resting. He is now at peace,” Zuma said.

“Our nation has lost its greatest son. Our people have lost a father.”

“What made Nelson Mandela great was precisely what made him human,” the president said in his late-night address. “We saw in him what we seek in ourselves.”

The revolutionary died peacefully in his home in the Johannesburg suburb of Houghton. He was 95.

  1. If God ever gave us a luminary in the style of Jesus, it was Nelson Mandela. They both were persecuted by their governments for the very same reasons. The only reason that Nelson Mandela survived is because the South African government at the time didn’t have the courage to blatantly execute him like Jesus’s government did. I can only hope that Nelson Mandela’s life will eventually have a similar impact on the rest of humanity that Jesus did, and maybe, THIS time, we’ll really listen, and do what’s right!
