Polling guru Nate Silver of The New York Times has released his initial rankings of the U.S. Senate races. He’s putting Arizona in the likely GOP column, giving (likely) GOP nominee Jeff Flake a 75 percent chance of beating Democrat Richard Carmona.

  1. How is Richard Carmona going to win if he has no TV ads? Or maybe he has, but I haven’t noticed them. Flake has a bunch of them. What’s up with that? I am quite sure that a lot of people aren’t even aware that Carmona is running and/or need a reminder of his distinguished career, which includes serving as Surgeon General of the United States.

Flake is one of the Republicans who believes in abolishing the 17th Amendment, which guarantees that voters elect their own senators. Wake up, people! Wake up, Carmona campaign!

  2. An added comment to what I said…. It occurs to me that perhaps Carmona hasn’t started advertising yet, because he’s waiting till after the primary. Duh. But then I wonder how such a projection can be made. I suppose it’s all based on more sophisticated calculations than I can imagine, because what I imagine is polling voters — voters who haven’t yet been exposed to the Carmona campaign. Anyway, thanks for the heads up!

  3. Dr Carmona has been traveling the state building a solid base, meeting Arizonans face to face, the old fashioned way. He is building a grassroots movement of Arizonans that have had enough of the far right making a mockery of our great state.

The ads will run, once the general campaign begins.

Jeff Flake is in a primary fight, that is why he is advertising now. When your political opponents are beating the snot out of each other, don’t interrupt.

Don’t think it will be easy, the GOP will be lying about Dr Carmona, they will never mention he is an independent sane leader that serves the people, not special interests. He is going to need each of us spreading the word and getting out the vote in November.

  4. I believe that Dr, Carmona would be one of the finest, civil minded individuals to represent the citizens of the state of Arizona. Hopefully we will all be able to recognize the benifits of electing a person whose moral standards, and good judgemt, might just help us restore, dignity, and civilty, back in to state politics. Attributes that our career minded Polititians, have placed in the endangered list over the past few years.

  5. DR. Carmona has been given so many postion of prominance because of his extremely impressive resume. And he has failed at everyone when he was administrator @ TMC. His conflicts and ME at the front and you all follow to the board had him sitting outside in less than 9 months, and reining in the trama center. Dr. Carmona time with the county and Kino hospitial failed to get a team of finincial accounting oversite board or get a team of professionals to take leadership of KINO. Then the county tried to outsource the hospital to private management. Working as the swat team surgeon gave him alot of publicity but really any military medic can do that job. All he got was an ego boost and carry a badge as a deputy. When our usless Sheriff needs to deploy security and establish procedures of assesed assults by mental health persons bringing them to the judical to preclude them from obtaining guns. Maybe a Physician working for the Sheriffs department could have helped in assisting in writing and make procedure. Then as appointed as SURGEON GENERAL, COMPLETELY aliennated himself from the congress and all the people involved epidemics, medications, facilities, insurance, medicare, medicaid, etc.etc.. Electing DR. Richard Carmonato the Senate will only add another milestone to his resume. He does not posess the social the knowledge or the management skill to run a campaign or a Senators office for that matter. Dr. Richard Carmon is a great trama surgeon and can run and set up a state of the art trama center. Dr. Carmona is a great shot with a handgun. DR. Richard Carmona will not be a even medicore Senator. Dr. Carmona is still waiting for the Democratic party to set up a campaign team, office, advertizing so he can take the helm as others guide. This has happened time after time.
