Just got this email from musician Jana Hunter’s publicist. Jana performed at Solar Culture Friday night.
Friday night Jana Hunter and touring mates The Castanets had much of their equipment stolen in Tucson. It’s hoped that you’ll run this story and help bring attention to their plight and that musicians and store owners and folks shopping on eBay will be alerted and report in if they note any of the stolen goods turning up.
“So, the story is, last night we played in tucson at solar culture. Afterward, we loaded our stuff up, went downtown, had a drink, and went to a house to crash on the floor. en route, we damaged a door, making it such that the door won’t close and such that eventually, before we return the vehicle to the rental company, we’ll have to pay on the order of 2 grand to replace the door.
“Seeing as how we had an unsecured vehicle, ray (castanets) slept in the van. sometime during the night, some brave fug(s) very quietly opened the back door and took what they could carry. we assume their were more than one of them given all the stuff they managed to walk away with.
All this after we had to fly our friend/drummer to the airport yesterday morning so he could go to the hospital. pretty big bummer all around.”- Jana Hunter

Man, that blows. Be sure to check Craigslist not only in Tucson but in other nearby cities. Also of course check e-Bay. Good luck.
Let’s see … they somehow damage the door of their rented vehicle, and then a guy sleeping in the van doesn’t notice all that gear is being burglarized, and the drummer for some reason has to go to the hospital? Dude, there’s a lot more juice to squeeze out of this story.
Consider also listing these over at stolenguitarregistry.com
Good point, James. I was also confused about the whole “guy sleeping soundly in van while people pull out large, heavy equipment” thing.
Does. Not. Compute.
Heavy equipment equals two guitars and two bags of pedals at the very back of the van? Fucking come on dudes, it wasn’t three half stacks or anything.
Plus, you know, leave the drummer and his PRE-EXISTING MEDICAL CONDITION out of it.
Or whatever, keep the jokes and the snark coming. Lord knows it’s doing us a lot of good right now.
Not that much snark. Just curiosity about the story as it was communicated. Sorry. Good luck getting your stuff back. We’re all on your side in the matter.
This is silly; how drunk was Ray that he couldn’t hear somebody sneaking in less than three feet away? And what do you mean, you damaged the door? How abusive do you have to be to damage a door so badly it won’t close? This is why they sell insurance…
