Beyond the ever-present disdain during the debates, of course.
Mitt Romney, registered Republican and hopeful applicant for a pretty big job that he’s bound to hear back on any day now, is a Mormon. Not only that, but if he wins the Presidency, he’ll be the first Mormon Commander-in-Chief in our country’s history.
To some people, that’s a big deal — though, to be fair, so was JFK’s Catholicism at the time of his election.
Romney has been reluctant to discuss his faith on the campaign trail, which I fully understand. I mean, a man’s faith is his own, and good for him for holding out on it.
But this video popped up last week, showing Romney getting defensive upon constant prodding from Iowa talk radio host Jan Mikelson.
Somehow, this has become a big deal amid what is (admittedly) a slow news day as far as Presidential politics are concerned. Sure, it’s interesting: Romney is showing emotion and explaining his views on his religion. But I hope to never hear about his faith again, whether or not he wins tomorrow — whatever he believes, he believes it. The only problem, in my mind, comes when the doctrines of his church begin to interfere with the general welfare of American citizens, which is a problem that could surface with politicians of any faith.
Long story short: Mitt shows emotion, defends his faith, and I hope that it never becomes a big deal ever again.

He’s gonna lose.
I am just shocked! I had no idea this was the Mormon Church. My respect for Jimmy Carter, already high, has soared! I always believed him to be a fair honest man who worked for all Americans. Now this revelation about how the Mormon Church came to change their view on African Americans only deepens my regards for Jimmy Carter. I heard the Church thinks Native Americans are a “lost tribe” of Israel, which strikes me as odd. All religions are geared to gathering and controlling as many people as the can in a game of dominance. Christians, Muslims, Buddhists, Hindus, Jews etc, all state their Prophet is the true Prophet of love and salvation, yet are all to eager to kill those that don’t tow their line. The Creator will deal with them when their time is due. I hope reasonable people come out and vote. Those who proudly say they belong to one faction cannot possibly rule a country of many differing beliefs.
He doesn’t talk about his religion because its tenets are indefensible.
I am a Republican. I will NOT vote for Romney because of his Mormon beliefs. NOW….I will stand up and defend JESUS CHRIST who clearly will NOT be reappearing in Missouri and Jeruselum after the thousand year reign. What a load of crap.
Glad to see that many are informed about Mormonism…since the media decided it was a taboo subject. Evangelicals can’t support Romney because he believes their savior is alive & living on some planet. Animal lovers can’t vote for him because he put his family dog on the roof of his car for several hundred miles during a family vacation. Women can’t support any GOP candidate because they want to turn back time and remove the rights we fought so hard for. Gays are against Romney because the Mormon church doesn’t even recognize them.
Since Romney is a bishop in his Mormon church, people need to understand that in that religion, the Church comes first and is the last word on every subject. He’ll be completely beholden to their scripture and church leaders. Check it all out for yourself–this “church” is still considered as a Cult.
