Oh Gabby (Mercer, not the other famous Tucsonan with that same nickname), you’re such a card. In Facebook news today, the tea-bagger congressional perma-candidate had this to say on her page in a thread that was all about congratulating Ducey, but turned into a call to have her forever opponent excommunicated from the Catholic church:

And yeah, well, U.S. Congressman Raul Grijalva was understandably unhappy with her post, especially because it involved her publicly talking about his attendance at a friend’s funeral and his accepting communion:

Grijalva’s full statement here or after the jump.
My opponent has called for my excommunication from the Catholic Church
My opponent, the Tea Party Republican Gabby Mercer, has just called for my excommunication from the Catholic Church because of crimes against the values of the church, infanticide and a variety of other things. I’m sure Mercer would love to bring back the Spanish Inquisition. Mercer saw me receiving my sacrament at a memorial service for a dear friend, Manny Herrera III, whom I graduated from high school with. Mr. Herrera was a friend, as is his family. The fact that she would bring politics and her campaign into the funeral service of Manny Herrera is shameful and quite frankly disgusting.
Pope Francis said, “Who am I to judge?” I would hope Mercer would take that to heart. Pope Francis stated that the Ryan Budget was against children and the values of the Catholic Church; I hope Mercer is against the Ryan Budget. Pope Francis called for an end to war and the militarization on the border and to take these migrant children as Jesus would and bring them into the fold. Pope Francis spoke against poverty and the massive accumulation of wealth; I hope she is against that also.
Mercer needs to examine her values before casting judgment. And, for once, can we agree that in this political race religion is not going to be part of the discussion? I respect everybody’s religion, their right to worship their god in the way they want, their privacy, and I would hope Mercer provides me and every other resident of the district with the same decency and respect that Pope Francis did when he said “who am I to judge.”
“Every man, every woman who has to take up the service of government, must ask themselves two questions: ‘Do I love my people in order to serve them better? Am I humble and do I listen to everybody, to diverse opinions in order to choose the best path?’ If you don’t ask those questions, your governance will not be good.”

Way to go Gabby.
You got his goat!
This woman is lowest of the low, white person trapped in a non-white body whom thinks if she just denigrates her own kind enough she will magically turn white and get allowed into the GOP white good ole boys inner circle!:-) I am white as rice and a democrat and can tell you that dream is pure fantasy, like the Log Cabin gay republicans she will only be tolerated by the racist GOP/Tea Party as long as she totes their agenda or racism, bigotry, like them Log Cabin republicans post election day if she won they tell them “get thee abomination before God back into thy closet, in her case she will get a treat like one would give a favorite hunting dog on the old southern plantation from her masters!
Remember this clueless bigot also wants to deport ALL Mid Easterners, legally here in the US as noted in a 2011/12 interview from the last time she ran.
Not like I was going to vote for her anyway. Just another reason not to.
You voters in CD03 are so lucky. Over here in CD02 all we get is a choice between Martha No Muslim Garb! McSally and Ron I is Bipartisan! Barber.
We must get the tired old men out of congress. Its time to retire grehalva.
I could care less about his religion, but his constituency in Sonora would be unhappy
If he supported abortion
I think we should get people who can’t spell the name of the person they’re discussing off the printed page, even one as ephemeral as this. And for what it’s worth, observing his public conduct as a representative of the people, I think Raul Grijalva — this is the way the name is spelled, Harlan — is a pretty good example of a Roman Catholic after the mind and heart of Pope Francis.
A new Pew Research Poll shows that democrats fear global warming more than ISIS.
From the looks of it here, they fear no marijuana even more than that.
Grijalva is disingenuous to the max. His quote of the Pope had nothing to do with this issue. And the Church also says social issues should not rank up against Church doctrine, i.e., abortion, you cannot get around being pro-abortion by being for more welfare spending, it does not compute in the Catholic Church. Grijalve cannot receive Communion as he is in a state of grave sin, thus compounding it by taking Communion. His taking Communion is a scandal to the Church.
I wanted so much to condemn writer because I really hate the tea bag word. I disagree with them and think they’re crazy but tea bag no I’d prefer not to have that mental picture please. Then I read what the crazy candidate said………….ok call her a tea bagger.
Mercer is about as ineffectual a candidate as I have ever seen.
Grijalva knows that many of his constituents are not overly fond of him. They have been stuck in poverty for years and years, and he has done just about zero to help bring good paying jobs for his constituents to his district.
So he is overjoyed to be running against Mercer. She just has that knack for saying the wrong thing at the wrong time. This would be a perfect example of that.
Mercer thinks too small! I suggest Grijalva be excommunicated from his US citizenship, as he is more interested in serving non-citizens than his constituents.
Well franklynobrains, I have no respect for gehalva and that is why I spell his name that way. I know that you will not understand a point of view that is different than yours so go ahead and wallow.
