JON JUSTICE TV SHOW IN THE WORKS

It looks like popular radio talk-show host Jon Justice will soon bring his brand of conservatism to the television airwaves.

Sources say the Journal Broadcast Group is working through the technical requirements for simulcasting Justice’s radio show—which airs mornings on KQTH FM 104.1—on KWBA Channel 58.

Along with Belo-owned KTTU Channel 18, KWBA brings up the market rear in terms of ratings and locally produced programming. Therefore, it makes sense for Journal to give its underused TV signal a bit of a boost by simulcasting a product it already has.

Allaccess.com reported in late July that Journal was looking to hire a producer/technical director to aid in the process. Journal has yet to officially confirm the move, and an exact launch date is unknown.

RICHARDSON TEMPS AT KGUN

When Belo jettisoned its news staff earlier this year as part of its shared-services agreement with Raycom—in other words, paying Raycom, which operates KOLD Channel 13, to produce a local news product for KMSB Channel 11—it left about three dozen people out of work. Among them was longtime KMSB news director and market news veteran Bob Richardson.

Richardson used the opportunity to start his own production company. Now, under the auspices of that company, Richardson is handling technical producer duties for Journal’s KGUN Channel 9 news. Richardson is stepping in on a temporary basis while another producer takes leave.

The producer’s role includes assisting with listing stories, deciding in what order they will run, and picking the visual elements to go with them. In his temporary capacity, Richardson also acts as copy editor and approves reporter copy.

FROM SNOW TO SUNSTROKE

KGUN has nabbed a reporter familiar with snow to handle general-assignment duties in a market more accustomed to sunstroke.

Alexis Fernandez started this week at the ABC affiliate. Her background includes a bachelor’s in broadcast journalism from the University of Alaska-Fairbanks, reporting/anchor stints in Fairbanks and Anchorage, and an internship at a Fox News affiliate in New York. Fernandez started at KGUN on Tuesday, Sept. 4.

MACKEY LEAVES LOTUS

Adrienne Mackey has wrapped up a nearly six-year stint with radio cluster Lotus Communications. Mackey started at classic rocker KLPX FM 96.1 in 2006 and was promoted to its morning show alongside Scott Barnett in December 2008.

When KLPX opted to move The Frank Show from alternative station KFMA FM 92.1 to KLPX, Mackey stayed on with the cluster in a number of capacities.

“I met and talked with some great people over there,” Mackey said.

  1. Adrienne Mackey is an awesome lady! She has done a great job working for KLPX, and she will be greatly missed! She was the radio personality that always brought energy to every show she was on. KLPX has lost the best radio personality they ever had.

What most people don’t know about Adrienne is that she is also a very active person in many areas of the community, both local and in the world. Her top activist work is with the treatment of animals, both domestic and wild. She is also an activist for the homeless which makes her the most caring and loving individual I know of.

Also, Adrienne is a top notch reporter of any and all local sporting events! I am not a sports fan, but when Adrienne speaks about sports, I am always eager to listen and learn! I am saddened by her departure and wish her well on her future endeavors.

  2. Adrienne Mackey is such a tremendous lady with a lot of gifts to give to mankind to where it is needed most. She is an activist for the human and animal races. Her love of her activism, her family, her friends, and yes her sports team are top notch. KLPX lost one of their greatest people ever. I am so proud to call her my friend. A true and very kind person. I will miss her at KLPX.

  3. Adrienne Mackey is one of Tucsons greatest DJs much less morning show hosts. She managed to bring a smile to my face each morning on my usually grumpy ride to work. Shes a perfect cocktail of smart, sassy and quirky… and sexy to boot! Good luck to her in life and all she does. She WILL BE MISSED!! YO ADRIENNE!!

  4. I see Adrienne Mackey is posting comments about herself.

Nobody cares about radio. KLPX plays the same 100 songs over and over and over again.

  5. One of the things that I admire about Adrienne Mackey is her passion. I’ve listen to her on the radio, watched her on stage at KLPX sponsored concerts and charity events and smiled watching her supporting her favorite sports teams. Always positive and enjoying life to the fullest. A remarkable individual and a big loss to the Lotus Communications family. I’m certain that her next employer will see her talents and thank Lotus Communications for their mistake in letting her go.

  6. Adrienne Mackey is a fun loving refreshing voice in radio. KLPX screwed up big time by not finding a position for her. She should have her own radio show. Anyone who would have her on their show would see an almost instant gain in their ratings. She is truely a Tucson gem. She is funny , knowledgable and caring for her listeners and the community in whole. I will miss her immensely and will listen to any station smart enough to give her a chance.

  7. I’m bummed I never got the chance to work with Adrienne, I have heard great things about her and saw her a few times when she worked on the air at KFMA before her and Scott took over the morning show. She’s got some real talent and if she continues in this biz, she’ll continue to do great! Love ya AM!!

  8. Once again, corporate radio management gives itself a makeover with chainsaw immediately prior to a beauty pageant. Watch them pull a 1330 and hire Alan Michaels to “save” their imperiled station!

  9. Hey troll!!!!!! This is not about klpx’s playlist. (or any other crap ass radio station for that matter.) This is about support for Adrian. So resume sitting in the corner lubricating your own cock with nothing but the tears you have for your “ex” life you had. Sorry Adrian for posting this.

  10. Ian Tigue: perhaps you should learn how to spell her name. It’s “Adrienne” not “Adrian.” Learn to spell her name correctly, you illiterate fool.

I have no doubt she’s a great person (and judging by the comments she’s written about herself here, she really thinks she is), but nobody gives a shit about Tucson radio. It’s awful. It’s irrelevant, and if Adrienne was such a “great morning host” how come she got shit canned?

  11. People get canned when they have nothing more to offer. Adrienne Mackey has nothing more to offer. Simple as that. Washed up, done, over, she has nowhere elso to go. Tucson radio stations care less about putting people behind a mic. There is a reason why all the stations are so bad. C O M P U T E R A U T O M A T I O N replacing real people with nothing to offer. Those who still have jobs are good enough to stay.

  12. THANK YOU for all of the kind words and awesome support!! WOW, totally took my breath away! I actually landed another gig on Friday!! Love Tucson and really love Tucson radio! Feel extremely lucky to be a part of it for over a decade now!

Looking forward to hanging with you! GO CATS! GO BILLS! –Adrienne

(It must hurt to be filled with so much hatred 😉 Wish you nothing but the best!)

  13. Adrienne is a sweetheart that is very personable and always cheerful. Her energetic dialog will surely be missed. Sad to here the news, but know she’ll move on to bigger and better things!

  14. Interesting that someone (most likely from 1330 if I had to venture a guess) hijacked my moniker to post inflammatory bullshit. This is the REAL R.J. Fletcher and I absolutely support Adrienne Mackey, particularly in the face of the typical managerial malfeasance she has encountered. I hope it’s “Dawning” on the people in charge of stations that they will suffer public exposure and disapprobation when they pull brainless moves like this, no matter how much they try to conceal their motives and tactics or how many lawyers they hire to stave off righteous lawsuits.

  15. RJFletcher, you’re a loser. I’ve been reading posts on here for some time and if you have a grudge against 1330, screw you. I listen to Ed Schultz every day and appreciate them providing it…. FREE! Adrienne is a friend and I know she’s in a commercial on 1330. Why would they say anything against her????? You’re an ass. I think we’ve all had enough of your vile comments.

  16. Ed Schultz is great, radiomaven. The management of the station that provides it, not so much. I have a big problem with 1330 and the way they treated past employees whore friends of mine, just like what has happened to Ms. Mackey. Put down the crack pipe and figure out that I’m supporting your supposed friend and complaining about someone using my nom de plume to post attacks against her…unless your agenda is something else entirely, which seems obvious in retrospect, so up yours too.

I think Tucson radio has had quite enough of the Avalon/Sprei school of management that spawned my comments in the first place. Unless you’re one of the instructors, you should have no problem with my making them in the first place.

  17. Looks like ALAN MICHAELS got fired now from 1330 as well!? It’s like a bad reality show over there.

AM1330 is a joke of a station and they try to sneak into every free public forum to promote their steaming turd of a radio station because they don’t have enough money to buy legit advertising. Please just go dark!

Anywho. Adrienne was always a joy to listen to and her voice was one of the easiest to listen to in Tucson for me. She will be missed.

  18. Seems every story presented in Media Watch ends up having comments posted about AM 1330. RJFletcher has demonstrated they have a personal grudge against the owners/operators of that station. So much that their slanderous comments have continued for nearly two years.

On this board and elsewhere on the internet, inflammatory and positively damaging information goes up instantly and stays forever, unchallenged and unproven, to the misery and detriment of anyone who may be a victim.

For the moment it appears everyone is having a ball with AM1330 and Adrienne Mackey. However, one day it may turn around and those responsible for slander and resulting damage will have to pay for what they’ve done.

  19. Adrienne Mackey is intelligent, charming, well-versed, witty, funny and “Oh That Laugh”!!! – and to top it off she is LOCAL home grown talent. When I hear Adrienne on the air it makes me SMILE. Know she will excel in her next radio endeavor. Think it’s about time for certain radio stations to start treating their employee’s with the integrity and respect they deserve as human beings. Let’s keep it positive people, we want everyone to keep their job no matter what the industry!

  20. @newsrat

If you think anyone besides the ownership of 1330 The Jolt needs to pay for what they’ve done, you’re clueless. Read back for the last 2 years and inform yourself as to why many of these people have come here and many other outlets to voice their pain and disgust with those vile individuals who stabbed them deep in the back after what the had done for them.

Learn before you open your ignorant face.
