MORE KJLL TURMOIL: SCOTT ESCORTED FROM BUILDING; ENGINEER FIRED

The drama at KJLL AM 1330 continued last week as company management pulled the plug on The John C. Scott Show and fired chief engineer Randy Howard.

It is the latest upheaval brought on by new vice president Dawn Avalon, who has overseen the dismissal of four long-time employees and Scott, who was stripped of his general-manager title once Avalon took over in mid-February. Scott’s show was off the air for two weeks, but returned in a brokered (paid-time) capacity on May 16—until he and his staff were escorted from the property last Thursday, June 16.

“We had a verbal agreement, which my attorney says is as binding as anything else,” Scott said. “That’s why they put me back on the air. I went and sold about a dozen accounts, and I can’t fulfill my contract with these clients, so I’m obviously damaged.”

As of Monday, June 20, Scott was raising the prospect of legal action against Hudson Communications, which owns KJLL. This comes on the heels of a lawsuit filed by former business manager Nicole Cox. And that might not be the end of Hudson’s legal concerns: Howard says he is owed $19,000 in radio-station expenses dating back to the Jolt’s money woes under previous general managers before Scott took the reins in 2009.

KJLL did not broadcast on Friday and Saturday, but did return to the air Sunday. The reason may have been Scott’s voice, and an inability to operate computer equipment.

“After they threw me out, I left a message and told them they have to take my voice off the air, and every time it plays, I’m going to charge you $100, because you can’t keep hearing my voice and not pay me,” said Scott. “I was on four commercials. They could have cleared that in 30 minutes.”

Except that Howard maintained the logs.

“I could have had his voice out of the system for the day in 10 minutes, and out permanently in another 30,” said Howard, the man who turned on the Jolt when it debuted in the late-’90s. “Instead, they shut the station down, and two people who don’t know how to do logs anyway spent seven hours going through all the stuff that was in all the libraries, to search for all the John C. Scott voice stuff.”

Howard was the last of the long-time employees who had weathered the Jolt’s past woes.

“We did nothing but try to keep the station afloat, and we were actually managing to do that,” Howard said. “Then all of a sudden, the dragon lady took it all down.”

Attempts to reach Avalon for comment were unsuccessful.

  1. I listened every day…now I will listen to my shows online and hope someone is smart enough at another station to put John C. Scott back on the air.

  2. Hey, tsnguru: As long as there’s stations (or PDs) dumb enough to put on Jon Justice and Emil Franzi, much less Limbaugh and Hannity, Scott will be heard again. Hell, I remember one Jolt manager (one of the talented and caring ones, perhaps?) dumb enough to put on Mancow…and they’d still broadcast Bert Lee if they could dig him up and give him the George Romero treatment. I may not be psychic, but I expect we’ll hear Scott wash up on the local radio shoals sometime in the next few months.

  3. Never happen. Journal recently met with Avalon. She knows where the skeletons are burried and has plans. When she bites back, it will be devastating.

  4. Every radio station has one primary goal…to make money. When the ownership continuously hires thieves and sub-par bloviator’s, there can only be one result. Failure. The JOLT has always been a bottom dweller and I’m happy someone took them out of their misery.

  5. RJ: The problem for Scott is that he has already burned through virtually every station in town with a format compatible enough to air his show: (formerly) KTUC, (now Spanish ESPN)KTKT, KVOI, and of course, The Joke. No way will it be on a station owned by CC, Journal or Citadel. I guess there’s always KJLL’s cellar dweller partner KGVY.

You mentioned Jon Justice. His audience alone exceeds the whole KJLL broadcast day, Scott included. Even Mancow’s Tucson audience surpassed Scott’s. Don’t get me wrong: The Spreis (Aldona included) were truly horrid owners who tried to welch on every commitment they made and deserve everything they are about to get. They also have some really nasty Chicago lawyers who will strongly contest every lawsuit sent their way. That ain’t gonna be an easy row to hoe for Scott, Randall and Cox.

  6. I’m sure there will be some money-laundering Spanish-language station willing to pick up the sticks. Think of all the advertising cash that can be washed. Oh wait, that’s already being done.

  7. Yeah, well you make me chuckle Not Dawn Avalon because you don’t know jack and you think you know everything. We are all entitled to our point of view here. Mine as a competitor. Cox is a headcase. Her word is worth zilch. Everyone who voluntarily walked out on KJLL, did so to shaft Avalon and Sprei. JCS promised he would get them all back when he got rid of Avalon (which never happened) and then he walked out too. Didn’t even have the balls to resign. (we all know his wife clipped them long ago anyway) Everyone walked out on Avalon. Cowards as I see it. JCS IS a blow-hard and I’m glad he is off the air. We wouldn’t have him and nobody else will after this mess. As for KJLL, they are at the bottom and will never be anywhere else regardless of who is running it.

  8. Hey RFletcher…Real dumb of those PD’s to hire Justice and have good ratings and revenue because of it. Yup, real dumb. Also real dumb to have the two highest-rated talk shows in the whole damn country on the same station. CC has just got to be crazy to do such a thing.

By the way, how did that Air America network work out?

  9. Hey, YOU must be nuts. You just threatened Avalon. Saying she is a snake in the road and you will run her over. Don’t make threats on here.

These people are out of work because they walked out. What the hell is it you don’t understand about that? THEY WALKED OUT. It sure left JCS with little to work with. Liars, cheats and thieves, maybe. When Avalon put them on the spot for answers, they all fled. Probably they are all guilty of one thing or another. The jolt has always been a mess. I never met Dawn Avalon but heard she has good plans for the jolt. The only exception was that she probably does not have the means to carry them out.

  10. John C Scott (Ulm) is the best in Arizona radio at what he does. Is he a blowhard? Yep. But a damn good one. He is the survivor who keeps falling on all four feet. A cat with nine lives. A pitchman, a newsman, a salesman. Who else is the institutional memory of this town (and has a job in the biz, and talks to all the local movers and shakers on a weekly basis)? Bud Foster? Maybe. Give JCS a cell phone, internet connection, or microwave relay and you have instant radio. Just add advertisers. Always wished I could stream or replay Scott’s interviews (without the commercials 🙂 ) when it was good for my schedule. The Jolt’s streaming never worked most of the time. Maybe a new radio programming model of JCS on local NPR affiliate KUAZ. But then again I don’t think the Santa Cruz is ready for ice skating today…

  11. TWpre(Wicker) It appears you’re just a rabid listener who is clueless because if you had an inkling how to run a radio station, it would go broke in short order. Blather all you want about Scott, maybe you should take the financial responsibility of caring for him…unless you already do. Sure glad he won’t be eligible for unemployment.

  12. Some valid points made today…Scott has indeed burned many in his march across the radio dial. But sponsor money tends to soothe old wounds and I’m sure he’ll find somewhere to smear it as he’ll always have a supply on hand. As far as Justice’s ratings are concerned, I think they’re as illusory as the Arbitrons and Nielsens in general. If the ratings actually meant anything, then Limbaugh, Hannity and all the rest would be out on their ears after dropping nearly 40% of their audience in the past 2 years, something that allegedly alarms sponsors. The fact that they retain their shows and contracts in the face of ratings plunges and Air America-style hosts lose theirs after drops of less than 10% proves 2 things: 1.) Their parent companies harbor ideological bias and 2.) Ratings are meaningless in the overall scheme of things.

As far as “largo” is concerned, their ignorance and venom is plain for all to read. Having met the principals in this drama, I can categorically state that Nicole Cox is anything but a “headcase”, which easily puts the lie to the rest of the insane claims made. Cox, Aubrey, and Howard were all FIRED by Dawn Avalon. Cox was fired after being accused of theft with no basis whatsoever, Caton walked out and Aubrey was fired after refusing to accept a 20% pay cut and Scott and Howard were sent on their way due to Sprei and Avalon’s paranoia about the approaching legal battles. Scott wouldn’t walk out on active contracts with clients and Howard has his own problems after being hosed by the IRS so he wouldn’t leave without someplace new to jump, leading someone with knowledge of the facts to conclude that “largo” is either Dawn Avalon or a paranoid psychotic with their own axe to grind. But I repeat myself…

  13. Ignorance? NOT. Nicole Cox IS A HEADCASE. She blew out of KNST and did that stint with Imus at the jolt. I remember it well. I saw her at Reed Park make an ass of herself with the police. If she was fired, she must have had it coming. I heard JCS had no clients left. His handler Amy lost them all. Apparently she hadn’t been selling since Avalon took over. When JCS walked out the first time he blew off his clients. I know because we have two of them. I looked in the Weekly archives and found nothing of Howard stating he is owed money. Maybe he is jumping on the bandwagon too. Maybe Cox is sucking him off? I hope those Chicago lawyers sue the hell out of everyone, they deserve it.

  14. OK, I think I got it…..!

Ya gotta admit when all these people were working for the station, they easily beat KNST and The Truth?

The Jolt was always had high ratings and really good revenues.

    BUT ALL THESE PEOPLE QUIT!!

So watch out for a whole new crew and they will bring back the The Jolt to number one status. When that happens Ed Schultz said he would host a beer and pizza party in his Vail home back yard!!

    I can’t wait!!!

  15. Such viciousness! Such vile remarks. These are people, human beings.who loyally worked very hard to bring the only progressive talk radio station in Tucson to a success. This person? Dawn Avalon came from nowhere looking like Aldonna and created havoc. She has accused everyone who ever worked there of horrible things. She has ruined lives and reputations and she deserves no sympathy. Anyone who worked under a” general manager”such as that would quit due to abuse! She or ” it ” should be ashamed for ruining what was once a good thing. Stan Sprei is a victim and he does not even know it.

  16. Sorry Northwest Bobby, but you’re either willfully misinformed or seeking to make others the same way because ALL THESE PEOPLE DID NOT QUIT, THE MAJORITY OF THEM WERE FIRED WITHOUT CAUSE. End of story. If Ed Schultz really cared, he’d host a benefit for the employees and publicize Avalon’s malfeasance far and wide.

And Largo is nothing but a liar as anybody who was at KNST when she left will tell you. You say you saw her at Reed Park? First of all, it’s a good thing you don’t know how to spell Reid Park as that should technically save you from charges of libel-there is no Reed Park in Tucson and there was never any incident with police for Cox to make an ass out of herself with. You may have looked in the Weekly archives, but you obviously never read this week’s column which makes Randy Howard’s claim in black-and-white. Finally, JCS never walked out, he was tossed out on his ear.

But you know that already, don’t you “largo”? Try taking over a Fox station as they can always use more prevaricators behind the scenes. And all the Chicago lawyers in the world won’t keep you from the legal holocaust headed straight at you from the other end of the tunnel.

  17. NJFletcher – Only a fool would challenge facts. Or to put it another way, only a Progressive fool would turn a blind eye to mathematical formulas, logic and common sense. Arbitron is, and has been for decades, the measuring stick of a radio stations listening audience. It appears that you have thrown out all cogent thought in order to show your support for a con man and his crooked sales team. A sales team that misrepresented facts about the stations ‘greatness’ while trying to secure advertising revenue for their shows. The greatness never existed. It was a sham, a con job promulgated by JC Scott and his wife. Hmmm…if I recall, didn’t he serve jail time at one point in his career? You know what they say: “Once a con, always a con.”

  18. You’re right, Odannyboy; only a fool would challenge facts. Like the fact that these employees, by and large, did not quit-they were fired. But that flies in the face of your assertion that these people walked away from their jobs, so it must not be a fact…unless you live in the reality-based community, that is. In terms of a “crooked sales team” misrepresenting facts, that sounds like every account executive that works or has ever worked for a station, blowing smoke up clients’ posteriors to induce them to buy time.

The Jolt was never a “great” station in terms of ratings, that’s true. But with the media pie sliced so thinly already, it sounds like the other 90% of their competitors, bleating about how great they are while the corporate gorillas at the top of the heap rake in the lion’s share. What else is new?

Arbitrons are only as trustworthy as you make them, whether progressive or otherwise…again, they can’t be too impressive a marker if a host can routinely lose 40% of their audience in the wake of elections according to Arbitron and still retain their shows and sponsors, now can it? Oh wait, that only happens to conservative talk show hosts…guess it all depends on who’s doing the measurement, doesn’t it?

As far as Scott going to jail, he may well have served time at some point. Since he was a politician, that’s probably par for the course…who can blame him for leaving such a corrupt racket, particularly when he wasn’t any good at it? I think he’s had a few bankruptcies along the way, as well. I guess that means he’s a marked man who should never be allowed near money, too, right? Please…it appears you have thrown out all compassion along with whatever logic you claim and you have an obvious dog in this fight as well.

For my part, I’m far less concerned about Scott than the underlings who were tossed out with him. The bottom line is that they all got hosed and it had far less to do with ratings than it did raw power. That’s what the facts bear out and I’ll argue that point until the facts prove otherwise.

  19. Correction: Northwest Bobby asserted that the employees walked out. I apologize for the error-tough to keep track sometimes.

  20. My sad point was that as hard as they peope may have worked, 1330 has always been an invisable station, and since no one is there now to change the kitty litter, it will still remain invisable.

  21. Point taken, sir-just wanted to set the record straight about walking out vs. being fired.

There’s a big difference, one those hard-working people would prefer others understood. Invisible or not, working for the station paid those folks’ rent for years and now they’re right back to square one through no fault of their own. Sad indeed…

  22. The funny thing is there are more comments on this article than there ever were listeners to the Jolt of John C Scott’s show…

  23. Hey largo.( Dawn ) Anyone that has ever spoken to you even once knows how you speak, and you write the same way. So you go right ahead and call yourself anything you want, your not fooling anyone (except yourself apparentally ). Now let me say loud and clear. I NEVER THREATENED ANY HUMANS, I SAID I HAD NO PROBLEM RUNNING OVER A SNAKE IN THE ROAD. I can however understand you making that kind of mistake. You know what I mean.

  24. Actually Dude, I think the volume of comments, good and bad, demonstrates the depth of John C. Scott’s support and listener base. If he was just a blowhard, nobody would even care to comment in the first place.

  25. I do a couple of shows on The JOLT, The Marketing Report & Word of Mouth Radio. We’ve also recently signed to air on KVOI The Voice as well.

We operate our show as its own business. We sell ads, sponsorships, appearances, etc. Regardless of your opinions about the station, the owners, Dawn Avalon, etc., here’s something for you all to consider.

The businesses that advertise, sponsor & appear on OUR show(s), GET RESULTS! They get calls, new clients, Facebook fans & great exposure as a DIRECT result of being a part of our show! The reality is, radio, newspapers, the news, etc., are ONLY there as an avenue to create advertising dollars. When the advertising works, and LOCAL businesses see a decent ROI, it’s a win! Our show(s) are responsible for TENS of THOUSANDS of dollars, pumped into the LOCAL economy, to TUCSON business owners!

There are obviously enough people listening (to our show on the JOLT:) to make an impact on Tucson business!

We’re prepared for whatever may come, but, for now, The JOLT is doing it’s job, just ask our advertisers!

  26. OK…. Enough. True, folks were not ‘fired’ in the normal sense of the word. Working conditions became untenable.

People were told, we’re cutting your pay 20%. Now do more than you did before. Oh, you were being paid extra for doing the website? Well we aren’t paying you for that anymore, and we aren’t paying you for the last two weeks of that, either. We can find lots of production people as good as you, so the cut stands.

The sales lady who produced $300,000, IN THE BANK in 2010, and received NO BENEFITS and no base, was told, to bad, but your commission is cut 20%.

You don’t keep people who were loyal to the station that way. And you certainly so not gain loyalty to yourself that way, either.

I, (C.E.) have been locked out of the transmitter site. I can only go ESCORTED by the “Security Guard”. He and my ‘supervisor’ must be present when I am at the srtudio. No keys for there, either.

When the station goes silent for whatever reason, I cam be awakened at 3 in the morning by the silence alarm, but I can’t DO anything about it. PC Anywhere has been removed.

I am permitted to load hours of programs, including my own, and many minutes of R.O.S. comercials, but I can’t be trusted to fix a problem. Or enter the buildings without an escort.

I am too damned old to look for a job, but I have been treated much as John C. was. His authority as G.M. was removed, and as a result everything was his fault, and he couldn’t DO anything about it.

The virtiol being spread in this comment area is seemingly being generated by hateful people with no love for broadcasting, but only for power.

“Ratings” are mostly determined by whether or not you subscribe to a rating service. You can have a large audience, but if you don’t subscribe, everyone WITH a suscription will ‘rate’ above you.

Programming is usually determined by what is available. 6 years ago a lot of programming was taken from KJLL by a ‘new’ voice. The truth. 104.5. Then KJLL discovered something ‘new’. Progressive Radio.

I don’t make a lot of sense of it, but that can be said for most politics. It was not to be found anywhere else in Tucson, so KJLL tried it. As an alternative, it found an audience. And that audience was built upon.

Poor Stan Sprie… He is an M.D., with no interest in radio. He found himself the owner of a radio station after his wife passed away. Truth be known, he probably should have sold it immediately, although the state of the economy was and is such that it would sell at a loss.

It is said that ‘A New Broom Sweeps Clean’. But you must be sure you don’t sweep out the load beareing walls at the same time.

    Randy

  27. Hey Ulm mmm, commercial free? LOL! Stay tuned. I heard the ship is sailing better than ever since the rats jumped it.

  28. KRDX is being financed by someones wallet. Personally, I prefer less commercials. The jolt sounds better than it has in past years. Hats off to you Bill Randal.

  29. @Dawn Avalons biggest fan –
No discount for my post:( I don’t need it, our show is doing great!
Also, re: your most recent post to this thread…
Think about it…it really doesn’t matter what KVOI pulls in over what amount of time, or how much KJLL sells airtime for, etc. KVOI could be doing 10 dollars a week or 10 billion dollars a week, and it has NOTHING to do with the JOLT! If you are a business owner, I think you’ll understand that entire concept. Wondering what your “title” is & why you’re not doing the show you considered buying time for on the JOLT, somewhere else? Or are you? And lastly, no commercials? The Marketing Report & Word of Mouth Radio say you’re wrong! Take a listen one day, at least to the commercials:)

@bj – You’re sadly mistaken in your thoughts…and your spelling. Not 1 “sponser”???

Take a listen to the commercials during any of my shows! The Marketing Report is FULL of LOCAL BUSINESSES that air commercials during our show! Our advertisers GET CALLS from the spots they run during The Marketing Report. THATS how it’s SUPPOSED to work. Our newest show, Word of Mouth Radio is RIGHT behind it! Our guests & advertisers (LOCAL, TUCSON BUSINESS OWNERS) get great results from our show(s)! Just ask em!

btw – We’ve got Word of Mouth Radio on The JOLT & KVOI now, so, maybe you will get to hear some the local commercials you say don’t exist?

  30. @Marketing Report

First off, I think it is you who does not understand the concept of radio sales. Your show is a brokered program. Your commercials within do not count as “house”. You yourself are technically one big commercial. Do not kid yourself, if you didn’t write a check every month, you wouldn’t exist. There is no demand for The Marketing Report in the real world. Please. Learn business. When Clear Channel or Dial Global comes calling (which they never will), then you can come back here an tell us how “on fire” you are. Infact, you just make yourself look desperate coming on here trying to plug your show in the middle of a conversation about station ownership and it’s employees. You are a brokered show. The people reading this article could care less about your topics, your commericals that, I remind you, sell withing your hour of paid time and the revenue goes in your pocket. Your pocket. One more time. Your pocket.

Second, I will relate your pride in your shows to the pride of going to ITT or Apollo College. If you have $$, you’re in! Not talent. Please. You could have 10 shows on every dial, just pull out your credit card. 🙂

The John C. Scott Show was the #1 reason anyone ever listened to that radio station. Now that he is gone, I’ve noticed not 1 commercial play during any break for local businesses. I’m talking National programming also, not dollar a holler radio. Tucson Jolt is now solid Public Service Annoucements. Hey, I’m fine with it, I don’t have to listen to Burn Powerwashing 400 times a day now, but even that commercials gone. And Burns advertises anywhere he can if he’ll be heard by at least 1 person. And yet, he has also left the Jolt. hmmm.

And last, in a world of cell phones, smart word and internet language, trying to play the grammar insult card is just weak. Sometimes you don’t know until you press send.

Here is a pro tip: When you are paid by a Radio syndicator or a Radio station to be on the air, that’s called being a Radio host. When you have to pull out your wallet to get microphone time, that’s called brokered commercial time. Please stop confusing the 2. The end.

P.S. I still think you’re pandering to management for some sort of monetary gain, no one with any kind of a soul could look at the past events and say it was fair what happened to these poor people. That is just pathetic and sad really. But hey, business is business. Right Marketing Report? I think Sean Hannity, Tom Leykis and all the other Radio hosts out there better be on the look out for you. Well… until your bank account runs dry. 🙁

  31. It’s curious how bitter you are about the finances of KJLL. We’ll get back to that. Radio sales work in many different ways. Of course you obviously know nothing about sales since you are dead wrong in stating Marketing Report is one big commercial. Marketing Report brings a service to the listeners as does every brokered show. Whether you like the service or not is comparable to why someone would prefer vanilla or rocky road or a snow cone. John C. Scott didn’t write a check and now he doesn’t exist. Dial Global and Clear Channe didn’t trip over each other to get him either. John Scott has 50 years in the business and still has nothing to show for it. He is definately NOT the #1 reason why people listen to the Jolt. Boy, do you ever NEED a reality check. I know you are lacking in the common cents 😉 department so I will give you some help. Radio is a business. People listen to ALL of what a station has to offer. If the John C. Scott show is gone, those listeners will catch whomever else is on.

FYI, A radio host is a person with an on-air position in radio broadcasting. Whether or not they pay for the time or not is irrelevant. Is John Scott or Bill Buckmaster a radio host? They pay for their shows. I can understand why you confuse the two, with your bitterness and all. It must be difficult for you to be so bitter and still attempt making it through the day with constantly checking these comments. A Radio Host is anyone with an on-air position in radio broadcasting. Again, an on-air position in radio broadcasting. Paid or not. Glad that’s settled. The end.

Marketing Report obviously had nothing to do with the past events of KJLL. Business IS business. Nothing personal. It certainly was fair. Those people should all thank God they weren’t working for Jim Slone or Clear Channel. How long did they think they could get away with robbing the owner ????? So, the bitterness over the finances at KJLL can only mean you are one of the stinking rats that can’t feed anymore. One of the rats that can’t reason why the pay was cut at so many businesses as well as radio stations. Clear Channel sent good people packing. They all moved on. It only matters so much to the rats since they lost that free ride. It is interesting watching the response as THEIR bank accounts run dry. 🙂 Stupid rats.

  32. Honestly I agree with reality check here. It is absurd to try to compare a 1 hour informational commercial show to what JOHN C SCOTT does. He has been on the radio for over 25 years or more and while he is still only local he is about as big as your going to get on local radio. I used to listen to 1330 for his show. now 1330 is just hour long commercials about things absolutely no one cares about. ive turned my dial and I know almost everyone I know who used to listen to that station have also. I hope now since the new GM has removed the only goodthing from it, he will shut it down or hand it off to someone who knows what they are doing.

  33. @exterminator… Thank you! You took MOST of the words right outta my mouth, but, not ALL of them:)

    @Reality check…
Ironic “anonymous” name considering that’s EXACTLY what you’re about to get:) btw- why so anonymous?? hmmmm….

Anyway, I think you may have mistaken my post for another. If you look, I never took a position one way or the other on the issues of how employees were or were not treated. I simply posted the TRUTH about our show, that happens to air on the JOLT. Since I don’t know enough about it to comment on it, I didn’t. You might want to consider adopting that principle in your life:) Next time, it’ll save you the embarrassment you’re going to feel when I click “Send” on this post.

It’s difficult for me to pick something to start with, but, here goes. You’re terribly mistaken if you think I don’t know radio sales:( I couldn’t fit another ad in The Marketing Report if I wanted to, and, it’s been that way for 6 months. JUST PACKED with LOCAL businesses BUYING RADIO FROM ME, consistently, every single month! Not 3 businesses, not 10, but 23 spots air, along with 5 corporate sponsors, PAID guest appearances, and more. Not so bad for someone who “doesn’t understand the concept of radio sales” eh? These businesses wouldn’t continue to spend money if they didn’t get results.

BTW – How are YOU doing on YOUR radio sales? Where’s the show you considered BUYING TIME ON? LOL

As far as your ITT TECH & Apollo college comment goes, realize this. I’m just an average guy who started a business with my wife, and now I’m supporting an entire family of 6, (a wife who gets to stay at home) and 4 young kids, SOLELY FROM SALES FOR MY RADIO SHOW(s), that you say nobody listens to! What bothers you so much about that? I’m a local business that supports local businesses, and you want to try and come on here and knock me? I don’t get it? Your misguided anger, depression, etc., is spilling over to the wrong people. “until my bank account runs dry”???? Like you WANT that to happen to me? What’s the matter with you? You should talk to a counselor. Or, is this thread your counselor?

Actually, this one is even funnier! First, John C Scott has a great show & I only wish him the best. Second, you obviously don’t know much about John’s show, or much about how his show was aired (Brokered or not). Get your facts right on that too, BEFORE you hit send. Finally, when you decide to crawl out of the rock you must live under, DO YOURSELF A FAVOR, and TURN ON THE NEWS. Burns Power Washing has been on EVERY CHANNEL MULTIPLE TIMES, on COVERS of PAPERS & ONLINE NEWS CHANNELS, BLOGS & MORE. Again, if you knew what YOU were talking about BEFORE YOU hit send, you wouldn’t feel like you will after you google burns power washing. Your brilliance & knowledge on what’s happening in Tucson is just amazing! Wow.

It’s as impressive as your knowledge of business.

Oh, and here’s a pro tip right back atcha:
when you can provide a quality marketing tool that produces great results for those who participate, when you can provide a show that offers quality, useful, DESIRED tips, ideas & APPRECIATED advice for LOCAL business owners,(check our FB page) AND MAKE MONEY, ALL AT THE SAME TIME, I find it hard to see how that isn’t a FANTASTIC business…for EVERYBODY involved!! The JOLT has been putting our show out EVERY WEEK! Great commercial AND show production!

I hate to have had to give you this verbal whipping, but, you went way beyond what I call “fair play” with my show. I never said anything about the doings of anybody at the JOLT, yet, you attempt to attack my show?? I run a successful business, from a radio show ON THE JOLT, and that’s all there is to it. Was I plugging the show on the media watch, not particularly. Again, I ONLY STATED THE TRUTH about what I’ve encountered. Far from desperate pal.

I hope you’ll guide your anger in the right place next time, especially publicly like this.

    I’m almost embarrassed for you.

  34. @sara M…
I never compared my show to John C’s show?? You might want to read my comments?

I take it you aren’t one of the people who calls our advertisers, sponsors & guests, to do business, after their appearances & commercials run on our show??? HUH! Must be someone out there to have taken your place as a JOLT listener..Imagine that! I sincerely welcome you back:) If you’re a business owner, you’ll enjoy it. If not, maybe you could listen to our second show during a lunch break or after you get home from work one day? It’s not hard to find…we’re on two different stations. Maybe you’ll get to hear us on the one that you switched to?? BTW- Thank you! You did have informational right! Tune in one day & see for yourself:)

Come on guys, read my posts before you attack my show. This is ridiculous.

  35. Why are people still talking about this loser radio station? John Scott was about the only thing on it that generated money and now you got rid of him you put the nail in the coffin. Give up Jolt! Your station is nonexistent in the ratings. No one listens to you. You couldn’t sell your spot time for $1 and no one would buy it. LOL Trade doesn’t count.

    bye bye JOLT!

  36. It’s true John C. Scott never amounted to anything more than a local Tucson host. The networks didn’t want him because he had no value. Face it, he’s boring.

When John C. Scott was with the Jolt, they had the lowest ratings in town. Lets see how they do with John gone. The stations who didn’t have Scott had better ratings. It could be the best thing that ever happened to the Jolt.

  37. John Scott is pathetic. He made Tucsons jolt a joke. What other station wants him. He is finally retired. I remember seeing him at a mens store in Williams Center when he was at KTKT. Nobody showed up. He is a joke. He made KTKT and the Jolt a joke.

  38. I’ve been watching this thread for a while now and have to comment. The one thing I notice is one person is leading the thread. A John C. Scott fan. I have been over to the Jolt several times and spoke with Scott, Dawn Avalon and Chris Lindberg. The article states “It is the latest upheaval brought on by new vice president Dawn Avalon, who has overseen the dismissal of four long-time employees and Scott, who was stripped of his general-manager title once Avalon took over in mid-February.” Mr. Scott told me himself that he was leaving because he wasn’t allowed to do what he was prior to Avalon coming in. He was not stripped of his role as general manager. Thats right from Scott himself. He planned to walk out and leave Avalon flat to see if she could deal with it or beg him to come back. As far as Avalon, she seems confident as general manager and speaks with knowledge of the business of radio. Joel Caton (who I know personally) and Chuck Aubery did walk out and were not dismissed by Avalon. That came from Caton himself. We should be fair and set the record straight.

The reporter John Schuster should get the facts before reporting. It would be nice if we could read the truth instead of garbage fiction from a reporter who has a grudge against a competitor. Thats my comment. Fair and balanced reporting.
