The stampede of Republican lawmakers retreating in horror from Alabama Senate candidate Roy Moore is quite the spectacle. Moore, who appears to have crawled straight from the pages of a particularly icky Stephen King novel, has become so toxic that GOP senators can’t tweet out their disapproval fast enough. Both of Arizona’s senators have called for him to exit the race. (and Flake has even said that he would vote for the Democrat in Alabama!) Yesterday, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said that he believed the women making accusations against Moore.
But there’s a possible Senate candidate in Arizona who has yet to say anything regarding Moore. According to well-sourced press accounts, Congresswoman Martha McSally has told colleagues that she’s getting into the Senate race but she has yet to announce her plans. (C’mon, Martha, it’s time to get this fucking thing done, don’t you think?)
McSally has a lousy record on women’s health, having repeatedly voted to restrict abortion rights and to deny low-income women the ability to choose their own healthcare provider (if that healthcare provider happens to have the initials PP). But she has held herself up a champion of women’s rights and has chaired the House of Representatives’ Women in the 21st Century Working Group, a panel McSally launched in July 2016 to “dig into the root causes of barriers that women face.”
Well, given what we’ve heard in recent months, we think there’s a “root cause” that could use some discussion the next time the working group gets together to discuss barriers in the workforce. (That doesn’t happen often; in the 15 or so months since it was formed, the working group has had two meetings in which they have heard testimony from companies that expanded opportunities for women. There’s been no associated legislation and McSally herself has said that she’s not sure government even has a role in this arena. And given that she’s likely moving on to that Senate race, we’re guessing this House of Reps dog and pony show has about run its course.)
Anyhoo: We reached out to McSally spokeswoman Kelly Schibi yesterday to see if Congresswoman (and possible Senate candidate) McSally wanted to comment on the creeper who was reportedly hanging out at malls in his mid-30s to pick up high school girls, but she didn’t get back to us.
This article appears in Nov 9-15, 2017.

Interesting to always note how she promotes “women” when it makes her look good, but her votes and positions don’t back it up. We have a whole website dedicated to this. http://www.representmeaz.com/issues
She said she wanted to be “a leader” on ridding the military of sexual assault, but then opposed reforms. There were House hearings yesterday on sexual assault in the Capitol – apparently that wasn’t a priority for her either? We were promised a “woman warrior” – boy has she not lived up to the hype.
Martha has repeatedly shown that she is not the same person that she was in the military.
She’s flying high above any responsibility to her constituents on the ground and her moral compass is FUBAR.
She’s got missile-lock on the money and if some of us are collateral damage — oh well.
Weak. She is just trying to stay in office, she has yet to stand up for anything. I bet she has 10 consultants who vet everything she says. Stand up, do something, get controversial. Earn you keep.
VOTE HER OUT!
McScaredy is silently chicken again. She never weighs in until receiving Koch brother approved talking points. She hides for months on end from her constituents, who PAY HER SALARY. Rethuglicons have perfected the psychological abuse mechanism of GASLIGHTING– denying the obvious truth of a situation, and instead viciously blaming the actual truth-tellers. McSacaredy pretends to advocate for women’s issues but instead undermines women at every turn. Trump has perfected gaslighting and psychological projection, and now Roy Moore is following the same sick playbook. Grand Dragon Steve Bannon is also a master of these Orwellian techniques, and I’m sure he’ll get a special Tucson welcome on Saturday when his reactionary billionaire sponsor’s private jet lands in the Old Pueblo.
Why would Martha McSally denigrate a fellow Republican who is about to be elected that will give her party more power in congress. Republicans would elect a baby rapist pedophile serial killer who eats his victims as long as it benefits the party power. Integrity and humanity do not exist in those conservatives and they only know how to control , they do not know govern.
Why should Cong McSally say anything to you? The media is already decided whether the person is guilty or not. you all have a right to your opinion, but I shouldn’t sure wouldn’t want to be treated the way he’s being treated right now. I sure would want to be treated the way I see you treat her and these newspaper columns and comment pages. We are all sinners before God we’ve all done things wrong and God will judge mr. Moore and Miss McSally. I am sick and tired of criminal cases being tried in the media with lack of full information.
abortion is not a right despite what the Supreme Court says. It is murder of our children. It is the murder of unborn men and women in the womb. tell the government you will not spend money for abortion here or abroad if you’re serious about women and caring about women. Nearly a million children a year since 1973 in this country and many many more worldwide. women have been sold a bill of goods by the abortion Lobby and Planned Parenthood about why they want 2 keep abortion rights. If you really care about women, stop supporting Planned Parenthood and support many of the other pro-life agencies that provide the same services that Planned Parenthood claims to provide but does not. There are many more agencies the can and do care about women and their medical needs. I applaud Congressman next Sally for standing against Planned Parenthood. I’m a 62 year old male with congenital physical disabilities. Life has been hard for me but I have loved and Been Loved by others. I have earned a living and paid taxes. I am glad that my parents did not have any desire to abort me or to kill me after I was born and they discovered I had for Disabilities I have. I am terrified at what feminists and the abortion Lobby have done in my lifetime. I am terrified at what they continue to insist on, right to abortion on demand without X exception. why don’t feminists stand against abortion except in the most necessary cases? they used to say they wanted abortion to be rare and safe. they sure don’t seem to want to say that anymore
Stephen Zumbo, by the sounds of it, you don’t talk to many women, period.
Feminist and right to choose folks DO want abortion rare and safe…they want to have ease of access to birth control, which you nutjobs do not want women to have, either.
Stop trying to control women. They do not owe you shit.
Stephen M Zumbo, your comments incriminate you as being a Republican right-wing conservative christian. I take offense at any person trying to manage and rule the lives of other individuals unless they are your parents and you are underage. Republicans want to take away all forms of birth control and the day after pills but you also want to take away the RIGHT GIVEN BY THE SUPREME COURT IN the CASE of ROWE VS WADE to an abortion. Get your mind and ideas off other peoples wants and needs and stop trying to dictate your religious principles on people who do not share your religious views.
Tucson Weekly and Arizona’s Democrat Congressional Delegation still silent on sexual harassment and assault allegations against Democratic Senator Al Franken.
Actually, the Roe v Wade Supreme Court decision explicitly says that if it could be proven that life begins at conception oh, then the right to abortion on demand would collapse, because the child would have a right to life. We knew in 1973 and we know now when life begins according to biology: life clearly begins at conception with a new set of chromosomes donated by both the father and mother. why do you choose not to believe this and to accept the implications of it. Currently abortion on demand shows that abortion is not rare, and the recent deaths at abortion clinics prove it is not safe for the mother. it is by definition not safe for The Unborn Child.
people are not animals. If you cannot care for a child or don’t watch children then you shouldn’t have unprotected sex. many women who have been raped have chosen to keep their children. there are men and women who are willing to adopt children who are unwanted by their biological parents. there is no reason for most abortions other than selfishness. If you have a health issue you can still get an abortion even if we don’t have abortion on demand in all cases. the reasons that are held up to say that abortion is necessary on demand without exception are no longer valid if they ever were.
this is not just a religious issue, it should be a moral View and a legal for anyone who claims to care about women or men. Justice they were wrong in the Civil War when saying that black people weren’t people they were property, the Supreme Court is wrong in its 1973 Roe versus decision. don’t need Planned Parenthood unlimited abortion on demand for women to have Healthcare provided to them. There are plenty of others agencies that can use that money to expand their services to women without funding abortion. why are you not in favor of that?
Typical over-reaction by pro-abortion responders. Why don’t you care more for your fellow women, why do you keep resisting any attempt to make it rare?
I am not against birth control, except when you want to use abortion, or the morning after pill, which in the case of abortion actually kills a human being oh, the majority of which are women, and then the case of the morning after pill which doesn’t always prevent pregnancy but May kill an implanted unique human being in its mother’s uterus.
I am not trying to control women. I’m trying to get them to reconsider their point of view on abortion and to control themselves. you claim to want abortion to be safe and rare? what are you actually doing to make that happen? most abortions are not necessary. They are convenience or imposed by force by parents or peer pressure. why won’t you acknowledge that if you care about women? why won’t you actively work to cut back on the number of abortions? if you have a right to life liberty and the pursuit of happiness, why don’t the children you conceive have the same rights?
the founder of Planned Parenthood was a racist according to her own words. She believed that white races were Superior to others. the number one killer of black people is abortion. how many people have been killed in the womb who might have lived 2 come up with answers to our real problems? how many aborted children would have had a life such as the one you are currently enjoying?
