I recall sitting in the Sabino High School auditorium about six years ago, listening to four Republican candidates explain why they were the best choice to fill the CD 8 seat left vacant by Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords.

The event, organized by the Sabino Teen-Age Republicans, included former state Sen. Frank Antenori, Marine veteran Jesse Kelly, Dave Sitton and retired Air Force Col. Martha McSally. The fun Republican kids asked each candidate what kind of animal would they be.

McSally, who didn’t win that race, told the crowd that she once took a personality test that compares people to animals, and she came out a lion. McSally said that’s “for people who are warriors and are leaders and want to get things done.”

According to this week’s Skinny (Page 6), by Jim Nintzel, McSally is avoiding—and has been for weeks now—a request by constituents to have an open town hall to hear what they have to say and hear what their congresswoman has to say in return.

McSally has always described herself as a warrior, but ignoring calls to meet with constituents and have a town hall meeting isn’t, well, very warrior like, is it?

Folks from her office say it will happen, we just don’t know when or if it will be the kind of town hall people are asking for. If McSally really is on the fence, I guess I just want to remind her that she is a lion, after all, and unless she is of the cowardly variety, a town hall meeting should be easy.

  1. Copied from another source. Feel free to repost everywhere:
“Calls are what all the congresspeople pay attention to. Every day, their staff and the Rep./Senator get a report of the 3 most-called-about topics for that day at each of their offices (in DC and local offices), and exactly how many people said what about each of those topics.

They’re also sorted by zip code and area code. And this is IMPORTANT: Republican callers generally outnumber Democrat callers 4-1, and when it’s a particular issue that single-issue-voters pay attention to (like gun control, or planned parenthood funding), it’s often closer to 11-1, and that has pushed Republican congressfolks on the fence to vote with the other Republicans. In the last 8 years, Republicans have called, and Democrats have not.”
Emails and online petitions are usually ignored, because interest groups have automated the process with pre-filled comments that one only has to add one’s name to and click submit. Your elected representatives are not going to pay attention to communication that they know only took 30 seconds of your time.

  2. Unless they allow their voice mailboxes to fill up and slow roll recording messages and freeing up slots for more callers.
Don’t tell me there’s not technology out there to accommodate an unlimited number of calls … in the cloud.
And I’m sure the elected officials can find disciples/volunteers to listen to the recorded messages.

  3. Good thought. The recording provides for identifying those that make death threats by caller ID. I guess you could say people are behaving better on the phone than they do in person.

  4. I too recall going to an event at Saguaro HS many years ago. It was packed. It was hard on the folks on stage, but they could take it. I would go again. Rep. McSally is in my voting district She should go too. I get her newsletter, but it is not enough. Any upcoming event should be advertised well and in advance.

  5. Congresswoman Giffords was shot and others were killed by an angry democratic supporter. The world has changed so the rules must be changed accordingly. Too many are attempting to get their way through violence.

Angry blacks were convinced that killing police officers was a way to “get even” for what they were told was happening, when in fact it wasn’t even true. I have had to ignore most of the mainstream media as their lies have become evident that they do have an agenda.

This behavior has made it necessary to communicate with our representatives by phone, mail or email.

I wish many of you hadn’t acted in such a selfish and childish way.

  6. “McSally, remember when you were a lion?”

Of course, she’s a politician, not to mention a Re-puke-lie-kin, which are the worst of the lying politicians.

All she has to do is recall nothing more than 5 seconds into the past and she will remember when she were a lyin’.

Unless, of course, she has the brain functions of a goldfish.

Revelation! Now that I see what I’ve said, maybe she’s weren’t a lyin’.

Maybe she’s just a sad little goldfish.
