Appointed Sen. Martha McSally has settled comfortably into the pocket of President Donald Trump over the last three years. For example, despite the obvious and growing evident that Trump ignored multiple warnings about the danger that COVID-19 presented to the United States, McSally has just blamed China for everything. (While it’s true that China could have been more forthright about its own battle with the virus, it’s also true that Trump had plenty of warning about it and chose to pretend it wouldn’t be a problem.)

Given McSally relentless support of the Gaslighter-in-Chief, it’s no surprise that she’s delighted to have Larry Kudlow as her guest at a town hall later today. Kudlow has been remarkable wrong about the COVID-19 outbreak from the jump. He told CNBC back on Feb. 25, when the stock market was starting to crash, that COVID-19 was going to be no big deal in the United States, despite warnings from the CDC that it was going to be a major outbreak. As Politico reported:

White House National Economic Council Director Larry Kudlow said Tuesday that the U.S. has โ€œcontainedโ€ the threat of a domestic coronavirus outbreak, breaking with the warnings of officials from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

โ€œWe have contained this, I wonโ€™t say airtight but pretty close to airtight,โ€ Kudlow told CNBCโ€™s Kelly Evans on Tuesday afternoon.Kudlowโ€™s confidence was set against U.S. stocks, which suffered their worst day in two years on Monday and were down again Tuesday amid fears that the coronavirus could mushroom into a pandemic. But the White House economic adviser suggested that the virusโ€™ impact is โ€œnot going to last forever.โ€

โ€œThis is a human tragedy,โ€ particularly in China, Kudlow emphasized multiple times. But warning against overreaction, he added, โ€œThe business and the economic side, I donโ€™t think itโ€™s going to be an economic tragedy at all. Thereโ€™ll be some stumbles.โ€

Yeah, you might call record unemployment numbers and the current economic calamity a “stumble.”

Kudlow has made a career of calling for tax cuts as the solution to every economic problem. He’s been wrong over and over again, but his willingness to stick with the party line has, of course, made him a perfect economic advisor in the Trump White House.

Jonathan Chait of New York magazine has done a marvelous job of tracking Kudlow’s consistently wrong predictions about the economy. As Chait writes in his roundup of Kudlow’s many wrong predictions:

The purest supply-siders, like Kudlow, go further and deeper in their commitment. Kudlow attributes every positive economic indicator to lower taxes, and every piece of negative news to higher taxes. While that sounds absurd, it is the consistent theme he has maintained throughout his career as a prognosticator. Itโ€™s not even a complex form of kookery, if you recognize the pattern. Itโ€™s a very simple and blunt kind of kookery.

Given McSally’s record on budget balancingโ€”she, like most Republicans, complains mightily about deficit spending while voting for budgets that drive it higher and higherโ€”and her consistent lying about her record on health care (yes, Martha, you have repeatedly voted to strip away regulations to a prevent insurance company from discriminating against people with pre-existing conditions), it’s hardly a surprise that she considers Kudlow a reliable source. She may not like liberal hacks, but she has no problem with conservative ones.

  1. Too bad the media is so hostile because of their socialist desires. The rest of the country is working together while democrats plot how to get more power. What a crime! Kudlow is not a health expert. For anyone to believe that is foolish. he is simply trying to keep the country from collapsing economically. It does take money to run socialist programs.

  2. I don’t know what you’ve got in that pipe, Johnny, but it’s time to put it down. You’re trippin’ balls.

  3. Why yes, little Johnny. In fact, I was looking forward to attending Seder until it was cancelled, in part, due to the gross negligence and incompetence of this administration as displayed by your pal Kudlow and others. You are dismissed.

  4. Come on people our real problem is with China. Even snopes admits that Obama never replenished N95 supplies after h1n1 in 2009. Blame does nothing to help. It hurts all of us.

  5. For those of us paying attention, the Trump Party — yes, the Trump Party, they stopped being real Republicans when they ushered Saint Reagan into the White House — have two main tactics: fear and guilt; with a third hybrid, fear of guilt, that they continue to use like some twisted Jedi mind trick to disarm and dissuade members of their own party and anyone else who would challenge their plans to create the perfect kleptocracy that is their vision of the new world order, as demonstrated by China, Russia and the rest of the dictators around the world.

Even now, with all the talk of federal money to be paid out to alleviate the economic pains brought on by COVID-19 — heaven forbid any talk that Trump is trying to use taxpayer money to buy the 2020 election — people are afraid and that fear is exactly what this administration feeds on.

Keeping State and local governments in fear and pitting them against each other in the Thunderdome of receiving federal assistance feeds the fear and entertains those who imagine they are on the right side of Trump.

As for guilt, anyone who might suggest less-than-honest efforts by this administration are questioned about their “real” motivations that might insinuate they are racist, prejudice, unpatriotic or anything less-than-perfect in the eyes of the faux woke shaming mobs that roam all the avenues of media like some black-clad, death-dealing, gas-guzzling motorized post-apocalyptic Mad Max gangs.

A wise man once said, The only thing we have to fear is fear itself. Right now people are literally putting their lives on the line to vote and you can bet that this administration will do everything within its power to ensure that Wisconsin is not the last place where voter suppression is used to keep people from using the power of the vote to upend the Great Pretender in the Oval Office.

Remember this though, do not risk your lives cheaply to restore an economy that will be used by Trump and his minions to claim victory, but instead fight the fear and join with others to vote to restore our government of the people, by the people and for the people from those who have lied, cheated, stolen and conspired to take this nation from us the People.

  6. The Hypocrite Party continues as we write, to misinform and gaslight American citizens into believing their revered Prince of Darkness. The real problem isn’t the Kudlows and the Grahams or even the Supreme Republican Tribunal (Court?). The problem is the virus that came down a golden elevator on June 16, 2015. The virus, aptly named the “Trumpolinigitis culus stercore,” causes a weakening in the brain’s ability to discern facts, logic and common sense. it first became prevalent on June 16, 2015.
I would like to sit these Fallen Angels down in a room, strapped to a chair, and force them to watch 8 hours of Trump speeches and tell me he doesn’t lie. Tell me he doesn’t change his story every day. Tell me he’s not a Narcisist. Tell me he doesn’t take credit for everything good and blame others for those things that are bad. Tell me…

  7. If we die away due to a pandemic:
    A. There will be fewer people to help build that economy back
or, the Republican view – fewer people who take tax money so they can live
in wealth on the streets and never work. The Republican view of those in
    need.
    B. If everyone dies, there will be no need for an economy
so, the new Trump Oligarchs, Jared (in a trade for Ivanka), Don Jr,
Ivanka, Eric, Bill Barr Kavanaugh, et al., will have free reign. Sr. can get rid of
    Melania and marry Ivanka.

What good will all that money and power be?

  8. Jim, I liked your older brother Doug … I went to school with him at NAU in the early ’80’s.

You, however, seem to be a major putz …

  9. I didnโ€™t know you could major in lame comment thread trolling. Now why donโ€™t you waddle off to bed and leave the professionals alone?

  10. Trumps new ad with tara reade accusing joe biden of sexual assault and media covering it up instead of investigating. Also watch joe biden say china is not an economic threat while communist china is giving hunter bidens firm 1.5 billion! You don’t have to vote for a rapist you can vote third party.

  11. Our government has laundered our tax dollars through foreign governments and then back to themselves. Just take a look at the Clinton Foundation and Hunter Biden.

  12. McSally speaking to Kudlow or vice-versa doesn’t elevate either person in their attempt to make each more relevant in the eyes of their wonderful leader, Agent Orange Trump and to make McSally more acceptable in the eyes of the Arizona voters. Two players involved with an exercise in futility . McSally will lose her “APPOINTED” seat in congress and Kudlow will not be a part of the Administration after the election in November. I can’t wait to rejoice and give praise to God in 2021 when we will finally be free of this bunch of demented, delusional, arrogant, ignorant Republicans and allow the United States to heal from all the harm they have inflicted on our nation.

  13. Itโ€™s amusing to see the negative comments on this site. Itโ€™s like walking down a street in the Bowery reading the spray can monologues of the eighth graders pontificating on politics without the ability to use spell-check or grammar-check. Yet, it gets printed here. That tells us a lot about Tucson Weakly. Does anyone there know what an โ€œE-d-I-t-o-rโ€ does?

  14. Ron is right. The IQ level of commenters here slip slides down and away whenever the topic is complex, because it really is so, so much easier to follow the Trump example and knee jerk kick anyone who sees an alternative to that dark cloud of flatulent misinformation that Trump proudly ejects every day.

But to stay on the topic of this story: Martha McSally used to have a bit of grit, and a lean into decency. Now, she is just another little politician who chose to descend deeply into the game of hot-breath gaslighting. There are many of us who refuse to ever be convinced that we are the ones who are crazy, because we can actually watch bizarre behavior on display every day, day in and day out, from politicians like McSally’s superiors. You can’t fool all of the people all of the time, Appointed-Senator McSally. (But some of them, sure you can.)
