I think we’ve largely given up on the Tea Party as an actual thing that people are into, but Wes Harris from the Original North Phoenix Tea Party (accept no substitutes, apparently) is still bringing the crazy, suggesting (well, more than just suggesting) that Sen. McCain should go ahead and die already, in response to his defense of Huma Abedin:

Wes Harris, the founder and chairman of the Original North Phoenix Tea Party, said he plans to take out a recall petition against McCain. While Harris has many problems with McCain, a mass email he sent out focused solely on the senator’s recent defense of Huma Abedin, a top aide to U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. Harris accused Abedin of having ties to an Islamic extremist group, and he objected to the fact that a Muslim was working for the State Department in the first place….

“Have you ever read the Quran? I suggest you do so, because anyone that is a Muslim is a threat to this country, and that’s a fact,” Harris told the Arizona Capitol Times. “There is no such thing as a moderate Muslim. If they are Muslim they have to follow the Quran. That’s their religion and that’s their doctrine.”

Harris said he plans to circulate recall petitions against McCain. In his email, he said, “We must find a way to get rid of this embarrassment.”

The email Harris sent includes a forwarded item from the blog Bare Naked Islam that castigates McCain for defending “Islamic enemies of America” and attacking U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann, a Minnesota Republican and tea party favorite. The blog piece ends by saying, “Go to hell, Senator, it’s time for you to take your final dirt nap.”

The editor of the Tucson Weekly. I have no idea how I got here.

  1. Doesn’t Wes notice that the crowd gathering around him to point and laugh is growing larger with every passing day?

  2. Don’t forget that one of Bachmann’s premier McCarthy justice league signatories was none other than Arizona’s own Trent Franks. These people are embarrassments to our country.

And I hope Mr. Harris knows that, according to his logic, he likely believes in slavery, banning bowl cuts, forbidding tattoos, and killing thy neighbor if you see him working on Sunday. Just saying.

  3. “Go to hell, Senator, it’s time for you to take your final dirt nap.”

Wow, Mr. Harris, that is a mighty Christian view you’ve got there. Is this what we can expect from the Tea Party? Even against those thought to be in their camp? This statement is reminiscent of those of other “spokesmen” from ultra-conservative, intolerant “political” organizations:

“Humanitarianism is the expression of stupidity and cowardice.”

“I believe today that my conduct is in accordance with the will of the Almighty Creator.” ~Adolf Hitler

“God is on our side, and Satan is on the side of the United States”.
    ~Saddam Hussein

Do these words sound familiar? Expect to hear more like these in the days and weeks leading up to the elections. The hypocrisy of these fear-mongers is astoundingly transparent, and sadly history is doomed to repeat itself.

  4. Tea Party, wish they would drown in there hot tea. This parties only mission is to trash this United States and it people. It has no other used. And climbing on the backs of the Republicans just adds to the waste they are.

  5. At what point did it get acceptable to threaten the life of a U.S. Senator, who happens to be a decorated veteran and POW who has served our country for his entire life. If anyone is wondering if the line between funny crazy and scary dangerous crazy has been crossed, you have your answer. The enemy is among us, and thank God they don’t have the shame to hide themselves.

  6. “Have you ever read the Quran? I suggest you do so, because anyone that is a Muslim is a threat to this country, and that’s a fact”

Has this guy ever read the bible? In it, there are many instances where god orders the wholesale slaughter of men, women, children, and livestock, for what amounts to fun and profit. I wonder if he realizes that it’s the same god.

This guy exhibits the kind of stupid one really has to work at.

  7. I commend McCain, but why so few in Congress have spoken out to condemn the actions of Rep. Bachmann?

  8. Really!!!!….Mr. Harris your hypocrisy runs deep…the tea-party seems to be a cult.

  9. And yet an equally out of touch personage, Trent Humphries, “leader” of one of the local splinter group of tea-baggers is constantly trotted out as a political pundit right here in Tucson…

To disrupt otherwise predictable repub vs. dem “debates” on KUAT with his predictable drivel…

  10. Gee, I though it was the one decent thing McCain has done in the last year or so. He’s been rolling over for the TeaParty since he lost but I guess he’s finally had enough.

  11. Wow! This Wes Harris sounds like he spent more time reading Mein Kampf than the Quoran! He is obviously a man blinded by prejudice and fear.
