Sen. John McCain suggests J.D. Hayworth is a nutbag for siding with the likes of Orly Taitz of the birther conspiracy movement in a new campaign ad.

Sam Stone of Huffington Post notes:

Hayworth has himself meddled in the birther movement, raising questions about Obama’s birth certificate and justifying them by insisting that the country is in an “age of identity theft.” But it is not something that he champions prominently — in fact, he’s practically begged those who have interviewed him recently to move on from the issue.

McCain isn’t willing to cut him any slack, clearly sensing that even the conservative base in his state is troubled by the conspiracy theory crowd. And yet, it could be a risky gamble. On Wednesday, nearly half the Arizona state House approved a measure that would require presidential candidates who want to appear on the ballot in Arizona to show their birth certificate to state officials before running.

  1. Mc Cain is making a big mistake in going after Hayward on the birther issue. Half of republicans either think Obama is a foreigner or don’t know for sure. this is a winning issue for Hayward

  2. The sad fact is “Questions Continue”….. is J.D. Hayworth the same guy who used to be a sportscaster in Phoenix ????? I did like him back then but now they should use him to produce wind energy, He’s much better than the wind turbines the Chinese are producing and receiving bucks from the U.S. government to produce.

My question is how bad does one have to be to get into Congress and then lose their seat ?????

Possibly, if J.D. had picked a benevolent benefactor like John McCain did, he wouldn’t have lost his seat in Congress. Long live Charles Keating, the benevolent benefactor (I assume he’s out of prison now).

  3. Let’s see how crazy this gets and we will realize how nuts they both are. Argue on guys. The more you dis each other, the less respect we will have for you if there is any out there at all anymore.

  4. Those Republicans who join in on the mockery of Birthers are shooting themselves in the foot. Over half of Republicans question Obama’s eligibility to be POTUS and a large portion of Tea Party ppl…and tons of Hillary supporters that believe the election was stolen from her. The likes of conspiracy theorist like Oliver Stone and Michael Moore get Oscars even in the face of bona fide evidence presented by congressional hearings. Mockers should withhold their sneering until at least one Congressional hearing is held or one bit of discovery is presented in a court of law.
You may think that Birthers = Truthers (But truthers are mocked because evidence to the contrary overwhelm and debunk the theories).
Birthers are more like : “Hanging Chadders” There are still those that did not like the Florida Sec’y of State for signing off that Bush won that election….so they had a recount and still believe Bush stole the election. Well birthers don’t believe that the Illinois Sec’y of State should have signed off on Obama meeting the requirement of NATURAL BORN CITIZEN as referred to as the eligibility requirement for POTUS. The Illinois Sec’y of State never saw any documental proof …just took his word for it.
But Obama knew that in 2004 a bill was introduced in Congress to explicitly define “Natural Born Citizen requirement to be POTUS” and as Barbara Boxer said: “The term has been debated since the framing of the Constitution and no one knows what it means other than two American soil parents having an American soil born child.” A committee was set up to define the term but the bill never passed. The DNC and Obama knew that his “dual citizenship” was a debateable unresolved issue in our court system…and he should have never been allowed to be put on that ballot without a Congressional judicial resolution.
The framers of our Constitution wanted our President not to have any other conflicting allegiance or desiring any other type government but we now see why. Obama’s influence of other countries laws of governing caused him to find as he stated in his book “that our Constitution was fundamentally flawed”…so he has set about to do as he promised : “To fundamentally change America”.
He is ineligible to be our President and needs to be removed….and yes there is precedence to remove someone after they are already in office once found they were never eligible in the first place.

  5. Ever hear of the statement,”The truth will set you free?” What’s the big deal? All Obama has to do is come forward with legally certified paperwork that documents the fact that he is a U.S. citizen. If he has nothing to hide, this would quickly put the “Birthers” concerns to rest. From what I have read, he has spent over $1,000,000 blocking access to his records. Seems to me, if you were falsely accused of something, you would do your best to quickly provide evidence that disproves the accusation. Makes you wonder why Obama has not done so. Instead, he does everything in his power to prevent access to the information which could set him free from this troubling cloud of suspicion.

  6. Birthers are just nuts. “The truth will set you free?” is a great saying. However, birthers continue to refuse to look at the truth. Both in the authenticity of a Hawaiian birth certificate, and the facts that they are attempting to argue away. The truth is always consistent, but this can’t be said about the birfer silliness.

  7. This issue reminds me of one of the stories from Issac Asimov’s “I Robot.” There is a “man” running for office and one of his rivals accuses him of being a robot. Now he could have easily submitted himself to some simple medical tests, which would have cleared up the issue rather quickly, but that would have been an invasion of his legal rights, of course he only had those rights if he were a human. A veritable catch-22. So the point is, it is not up to Obama, a man elected to be President of the United States of America, to prove his right to said office by pandering to the accusations of a small group of radicals. It is up to the small group of radicals to prove that he is not deserving of his office. In Asimov’s story the man running for office finally “proved” he was not a robot when he punched a “man” who was verbally assaulting him at a rally, thus breaking the first of the three fundamental laws of robotics, which a robot could not have broken thus proving his humanity; that is unless the man he punched was simply just another robot….. Even if Obama comes forward with a birth certificate (which the state of Hawaii has already done) the Birthers will just claim it to be a forgery (or just another robot). Oh Asimov, you are so wise….

  8. Tea Baggers? Birthers? Why should any real conservative think they matter? Thinking is really an important part of understanding our government & I see no evidence that these groups do much of that. Our legislature is not only without shame, they are also incapable of leadership or rational thought so why should we be paying attention to their desires? They don’t pay any attention to voters.
