For once it would be great to travel outside Arizona and not have folks look at you in pity when you tell them you’re from Arizona. Even saying you’re from Tucson doesn’t offer much coverage in terms of pity, extreme empathy or sadness. I’m not sure what it is, but perhaps Shaun McClusky’s not-so-brilliant scheme is simply to make sure his political future is now sealed with the crazies. (Read Jim Nintzel’s recent post here.)

Today, Thursday, March 28 at 11 a.m. there’s a press conference at the South Tucson City Hall, 1601 South 16th Ave. with Mayor Jennifer Ekstrom, joined by Daniel Hernandez, Jr., Pam Simon, Mayor Jonathan Rothschild, and Jocelyn Strauss, head of the newly formed Tucson chapter of Moms Demand Action.

More than 100 events across the country are planned for today, Thursday, March 28 as part of the National Day to Demand Action to end gun violence organized by Mayors Against Illegal Guns.

  2. Remember the 2nd amendment. It is politicians like you that try to take it away. We are a free state and I’m proud to live in Arizona. If you are ashamed of it then get out!!

  4. If one says it enough, people start believing it. WHAT the heck “folks look at you in pity” if you are from Arizona. Only ones that believe that lie is liberals, pro-illegal aliens, pro-open border thugs. I live here, and I am proud of how this State stands up to lies, pandering to criminals and these corrupt politicians spreading their negative views. If you don’t like Arizona, no one is keeping you here…leave.

  5. Let us have true universal background checks, no licensed dealers involved. Anyone free to run a check no fee involved. Anything less is looking to limit gun sales by charging higher and higher fees for dealer licenses till only the ultra rich can afford self defense.

  6. For years I was of the mind that only the police should own firearms. Then I realized that the criminals will *always* have firearms, the only thing that stops the criminals from constantly engaging in home invasions and burglary is the fear that the home owner has a weapon and can kill them.

    Paradoxical as it may sound, if criminals know that a neighborhood is armed to the teeth, then they might well think twice about home invasions, theft, and other crimes. These are shotguns he is passing out, not automatic weapons. Yes, a crazy person might get a gun, (but wouldn’t they get one anyway?), but we all benefit from an armed citizenry.

    I usually agree with the liberal position, but the news story of this mayor was heavily slanted against him, (as well as all of the “crazy” talk about him and lamenting Arizona’s so-called backwardness), and then I read a bit more and realize that I’m much more on the fence than I realized. Not so sure I would hand out shotguns, even with a background check, but the idea is not as crazy as it sounds.
