With Gov. Doug Ducey announcing his plans for modifying Arizona’s Stay-at-Home order at a 3 p.m. presser today, Tucson Mayor Regina Romero and Pima County Board of Supervisors Chairman Ramon Valadez say that it’s not yet time to open Arizona. The joint statement:

Pima County and the City of Tucson are united in our concern on relaxing restrictions and opening up our economy at this time. We encourage Governor Ducey to give counties and local jurisdictions the flexibility to act at the regional level if he does not want to extend his ‘Stay Home, Stay Healthy, Stay Connected’ executive order statewide.

The CDC’s guidelines on ‘Opening Up America Again’ clearly state that Governors have the discretion to allow local jurisdictions to act at the regional level. The Pima County Health Department has issued guidelines based off CDC recommendations on when it is safe to begin a phased re-opening, including a decline of positive cases over 14 consecutive days, widespread testing, and sufficient PPE for first responders and healthcare workers. We urge great caution in any relaxation.

  1. There is inherent inaccuracy in all the numbers reported so it may be nearly impossible to extrapolate just what did happen in the previous days. Social distant, hand sanitizer and masks when around others. Don’t forget that politicians for the most part are still receiving full pay. It would have been more effective to eliminate their sources of income and watch how fast they fix ours.

  3. It doesn’t appear that way, according to the police investigators:

    “UPDATE, April 29, 11:17 A.M.: After publication, a spokesman for the Mesa City Police Department told the Free Beacon that it is “normal protocol” for the homicide department to investigate “all death cases (other than obvious natural causes)” and that the death “has not been ruled a homicide at this time.”

  4. Gary Lenius, 68, died in March after drinking fish tank cleaner that had chloroquine phosphate in it
    He and his Wanda had confused it for hydroxychloroquine, the anti malaria drug Trump touted as a potential COVID-19 treatment
    Neither had been diagnosed with the virus but had watched a briefing where Trump discussed the drug
    Now, a homicide detective has been assigned to investigate Gary’s death
    The Mesa Police Department say it does not mean his death is suspicious and that it is standard procedure

    Neither one was ill? WTH were they doing?

    “In the same interview, Wanda Lenius told the Free Beacon that her husband had been planning to schedule a doctor’s appointment to have a leg injury looked at and the couple worried he might pick up coronavirus at the clinic. That’s when, she said, she reached for the fish tank cleaner in her pantry. Her husband’s response, she said, was, “Is it still good?”

  6. Come on is that for real? She remembered the name of something bought years ago to clean algae, and thought they should drink it? He did not even have the appointment scheduled. Something is not right with this story. She was also going into the appointment to show his leg and yet they had no appointment? How long did she think the treatment was going last? They might have scheduled them three or four weeks out.

    WTH were they thinking?
