  1. The venue for this “community” forum shows exactly who the community they hope to attract to the meeting. MAS supporters are so caught up in their group-think they refuse the recognize the negative consequences the old MAS program had for TUSD and the even worse negative consequences a restoration of the old program would have.

  2. No negative consequences by the Mexican American Studies. They improved the graduation rates of those students who participated, mexican and non-mexican students alike. The negative came from the SB1070 supporting Arizonans who equate everything negative with brown folks. There was a history before 1492 people and this is part of what is studied in MAS. How can engaging young people be considered “negative.” How can you study SW history without including the indigenous people of North America? Unfortunately, some of this history does contain horrible battles, genocide, and the enslavement of Native Americans of this land. However, this story has been repeated from the begining of time across the globe by those who feel the need to conquer. I was at the many TUSD board meetings and the divisive and confrontational attitudes came from the opposition, who follow without becoming informed. MAS will not OBEY and sit back while our children’s and your children’s education is threatened. Let’s not forget these classes were mandated by the Federal Government, and for good reason.
