Jim Nintzel says the atmosphere is festive at the Marriott University Park, where Dems had gathered to watch the Congressional District 8 results come in.
Ron Barber currently holds an 8-point lead over Republican Jesse Kelly.
Jeff Rogers, the chair of the Pima County Democratic Party, was close to declaring victory.
“I’d like to think it was our massive get-out-the-vote effort, but I looked at the numbers in this district, and demographically, it’s the 11th-oldest in the nation, and I think it just sunk in that this guy Jesse Kelly meant what he was saying about Social Security and Medicare,” he said.
Jim Woodbrey, a Democratic activist in Green Valley, said: “I think that voters realized that Ron thinks about things. Jesse didn’t give the sense that he thinks about things.”

This is good news.. and not at all surprising 🙂
Pack up your carpetbag and return home to Texas for good Jesse.
Good riddance, you under-educated fool.
Now if Republitards would put up quality candidates like Ray Carroll or Steve Kozachik
AZ 8 (soon to mostly be AZ 2) might go back to their party.
With apologies to Grandpa Kelly. Welcome little Jesse back home to Texas where he belongs.
Democrate party ! Party for the people ! Not for the corporation. Power to Democrate party,American jobs ! Rebuild America ! Never give up ! Never give up! Gop party, unite with us,in solidarity, together we can rebuild America !
I still can’t believe Barber won, the sympathy vote obviously won out. And to ‘Rational Voter from Tucson’-Ray Carroll & Steve Kozachik ARE Democrats who supported Barber and Grijalva. All they need to do is change their party affiliation and you can have them! They fit right in with the Shirley Scotts and Sharon Bronsons of Tucson.
