People wanting to take a visible stand for Arizona education are gathering at Tucson High (400 North 2nd Ave.) Saturday, March 14, 9:30 a.m., to march to the Festival of Books on the UA campus, less than a mile away. The march will be followed by a rally and passing out literature to Festival of Books attendees. Participants are encouraged to bring signs. More information on the Arizona Stands UP website.

  1. We can march, write, call, e-mail, tweet, text even send carrier pigeons all we want but, to no avail, i fear. Until we can get rid of the ALEC/Americans for Prosperity/outside money crowd that runs our State, we are going to be forever wishing and demonstrating but improved education will not be the outcome. I am sure that Ducey et al is hoping that the angst dies down before the next election and that school funding will become a dead issue. We need to keep the pressure on.

  2. I guess Michael that school funding cuts of this magnitude cannot be a dead issue for those of us in schools. They feel impossible and I don’t want more schools to close and more charters to open. I listen and read the vitriol and it fuels me at this point. We did get 2 out … Symington and Mecham. One ended up being impeached before he could be recalled and the other resigned so we do know how to fight. I understand your skepticism but I just hope that many feel as passionate as I do about the children. I keep telling people… do not let anyone minimize your values by doubting if this is worth fighting for. I am not fighting Ducey. I am fighting for the kids… any students who want to go to school. I am also fighting for Arizona and the U.S because this is a virus that is spreading very quickly.
