Clarification: Hunters Can Take Automatic Weapons, but Can’t Hunt With Them
The article “Right-Wing Rule” (May 17) leaves the mistaken impression that new state legislation allows the use of automatic rifles with armor-piercing rounds for hunting.
Please note that using fully automatic weapons and armor-piercing rounds for hunting is and will continue to be illegal. Confusion may have arisen because new legislation does allow hunters to take any lawful weapon with them into the field. The legislative intent was apparently to provide for personal protection. Fully-automatic weapons, with a Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives permit, and armor-piercing rounds, are legal to possess in Arizona. That does not mean, however, that they may be used for hunting.

Regarding “Tucson Voters Won’t Have Jesse Kelly to Kick Around Anymore,” The Range, June 14:
Thank God, Jesse’s gone. But what about all those people who voted for him? Did they just vote for him because they went to his church or were employed by his business? Did they vote for him because they didn’t understand English? Did they vote for him because they liked to hear the mindless sound bites that he gave for answers?
Whatever the reason, THEY are still around!

I voted for him because of people like you, who need a Savior. Unfortunately, you’re the one who’s going to be clueless at the end! And by the way, I speak English very well, thank you. This state needs more Godly people in Congress. I am saddened that Mr. Kelly decided not to run again. God brought him here to make a difference for this state, but as always, when you are in such darkness, you just can’t see the light. I can only pray we will have more Godly people who will run for Congress. May God continue to bless America.

This reader is also deeply concerned about the fact that tens of thousands of southern Arizonans actually voted FOR Jesse Kelly. We can only hope that the vast majority of them did so out of party loyalty and/or force of habit. And to characterize Mr. Kelly as some sort of heaven-sent messenger of change is, frankly, disturbing. What some folks consider “godly” makes me question the nature of religion, and chills me to the bone. I don’t believe Jesus would think much of their criteria, either.
If “Maria” is not satire, and Jesse Kelly has tens of thousands of disciples like her, then we should all be afraid of the coming end.
A note to all the religious bigots out there – Don’t just quote Jesus’ words, PRACTICE them, ALL of them, not just the ones you like!
Why is it that we view the Taliban, who want to codify Sharia law, as terrorists BUT…………
We view the American Taliban, who want to codify Biblical law as “Godly?”
The 19th century Danish philosopher/theologian Soren Kirkegaard asked: “Are you a follower of Jesus or an admirer?” On today’s local and national scenes it seems that those who come closest to feeding the hungry, clothing the naked, housing the homeless, caring for orphans, widows and all of the marginalized don’t spend a lot of time ostentatiously praising Jesus. They follow him. Some of them wouldn’t even claim to be followers, but they act as he urged his followers to act. I’ve seen them at work right around here, and I suspect you have, too.
Maria is being a comedian with her ironic comments. Apparently she is making sport of people who voted for jerky Jesse. But I agree with her, may god, or intelligent voters much more likely, continue to bless us and keep jerks such as Jesse out of our government.
Last I heard god doesn’t vote.
No one who spews the hatred that Jesse Kelly did is “godly.” I guess if God had anything to do with this election He removed Kelly from the arena.
