In Charlton, Massachusetts, the local library sent two cops to shake down a five year old for her two overdue library books. This is where the police state begins, people. Maybe Ron Paul is right about everything.

However, I also sense a sequel to that Paul Blart movie in the works.

  1. Sounds like someone needs to hear…the rest…of the story: http://www.tucsonweekly.com/TheRange/archi…

The FAMILY had $130 worth of library material overdue since 2009, not including fines. That included a $100 audio book from the father. The family had ignored multiple notifications about the missing books, and the library asked the police to notify the people who owed directly to contact them.

  2. Steve: Still, doesn’t that seem excessive? So, the father had one overdue item ($100) and then the kid had two books (probably the other $30) and that merited a visit from the cops? I’m pretty sure the Pima County Library just uses a collection agency instead.

  3. No, it doesn’t seem justified if you consider the visit by the police officers probably cost taxpayers another $130…
