Thanks to Arizona Theatre Company for pointing out this YouTube clip from the LG Wolf Company showing the groundbreaking and some of the construction of the Temple of Music and Art in 1927. Be sure to turn the sound off however, since it’s it’s the sound of the film spooling which gets really irritating after a minute or so.

Dan Gibson neglects to tell the people what time of year (1927) this Old Pueblo film was made. The girls in the groundbreaking ceremony look heavily-clothed so was it shot in January or July? Or just the culture?
Culture Red Star and notice how fast they built this……I guess a hell of a lot less permits and regulations and probably built above code today…..
Everyone was wearing a hat. Couldn’t leave the house without one. Women dressed up for any outing in public. There was a lot of concern over looking proper and what other people thought of you ..that is, what they thought about your moral character. My mother and aunts were from that era. I can still hear my aunt Neta saying “Oh good Lord!” in shock over seeing something scandalous. Naturally, I heard it many times during the 1960’s and 1970’s.
What a great find this film is ..a big thank you to the Range for sharing it with us.
