Thanks to the Arizona Daily Star (it burns to even type that) for posting the surveillance footage of Martha Vazquez’s afternoon shopping trip to the Tucson Mall on February 11th.

Below the cut, two additional clips:

The Eileen Fisher hooded jacket:

Leaving the store, and then returning:

The editor of the Tucson Weekly. I have no idea how I got here.

  1. Fascinating how store security keyed right in on her — and followed her movements. Of course, there are minutes before each clip that aren’t included… Just goes to show, honesty pays!

  2. Enough of the busybody gossip mongering and nasty moralizing! Compulsive shoplifting, aka kleptomania, is a disease process sometimes connected with depression. Martha makes enough money to be able to purchase these things–things she did not NEED. It is an addiction similar to alcoholism. Let’s hope she gets treatment for her self destructive behavior and can return to a productive life. We all deserve that chance.

  3. talk about media bulling, I am disgusted by the way this has been handled by her colleagues in the press !!!!!

  4. (talk about media bulling, I am disgusted by the way this has been handled by her colleagues in the press !!!!!)

    cry me a river!

  5. the picture of her sitting on a chair, I guess when being questioned, her eyes are so so sad, I am not making excuses for her but I am beginning to wonder if she is really sick or has maybe severe depression. i just can’t get over that sad look in her eyes. If she has a medical issue, hope she gets help for it.

  6. I’m amazed that the security personnel just watch her for several minutes without doing anything. It’s quite obvious she’s trying to steal that jacket. Is it so hard for one of the security guards to go up to her and say, ‘Hey, we see what you’re trying to do.’ as a gentle reminder?? Then this whole fiasco could have been avoided. Instead they just watch her and watch her and wait for the whole thing to blow up when she actually leaves the store. Pretty careless and non-compassionate if you ask me.

  7. Jesus you people you really like to dance on the graves of the downfallen. she’s no longer in the public eye its no longer a story. Dan you really stooped to the ADS level on this one.

  8. I miss Martha. The security videos are so definitive. Sorry for all, but especially Martha because she loves Tucson and is so recognizable in the UA T-shirt even on grainy vids. Channel 4 did not hesitate, did they? Too, too bad. All for $368.00 plus tax. Too bad.

  9. Imn sure martha must be getting treatment by now for this and will be better and might make a statement to the news to everyone about it. Something tells me that she will come back maybe on another station or maybe work for the papers.

On another note whatever happened to Brandon Gunnoe? He was the anchorperson(or whatever they call it) and havent seen him except for some news bits here and there. He was excellent why did they replace him with someone else?

HOW’S THIS FOR A SLAP ON THE WRIST? IF IT’D BEEN YOU OR ME WE’D BE IN THE SLAM 5 YRS OR MORE.

    From the newspaper today:
Former KVOA anchor Martha Vazquez entered what’s called a “diversion plea” in connection with a shoplifting charge from a Feb incident, a city prosecutor said Mon. If Vazquez pays a $180 fee & attends a 7.5 hr counseling session by 8/15 her shoplifting charge will be dismissed, Tucson City Prosecutor Baird Greene said.
Vazquez entered the plea Mon before Tucson Magistrate Jeffrey Klotz. Greene said “It’s a standard plea for someone in her situation”.
Vasquez resigned from the TV station 2/13 after being cited for shoplifting. A ‘store loss prevention officer’ (HA!) told police he saw her stealing a $30 pr of earrings & $338 jacket from Dillard’s at Tucson Mall.

I guess it all depends on who you know…or who you are!

  11. Unfortunately, this clip shows nothing. Not the lifting, not even really the apprehension. I wish they had gotten her on tape stuffing the items!

  12. poor Martha I really don’t blame her, the way society is these days & everyone having to “live up” to certain standards that she might NOT be able to afford or want to pay that much for a jacket, she’s just being frugal!! geeeeez people! I’d also like to say that Dillard’s LP room needs a makeover, get Ty Pennington or something..it looks awful! I guess Dillards like to provide an image as well, but it’s really dirty on the inside too! nobody’s perfect, a song by Miley Cyrus look it up peeps.

  13. I cannot believe some of these comments that I’m reading. Poor Martha! She knew right from wrong, and how is someone suppose to learn not to steal if they don’t take responsibility for their actions. There are consequences to our actions. If you break the law, then you must pay for it. One comment above says that the security was careless and non-compassionate. Are you kidding me? Really? Why should security care, and how are they going to catch people and teaching them a lesson if they whisper in their ear and say, oh boy, you better not do that. It’s not the Security’s job to be compassionate. It’s their job to catch people stealing, and bring them to justice.
And, also for the thief above who steals every chance she gets, boy I hope you get caught. Karma is catching up to you, so you better look over your shoulder.
