In what’s seemingly a promotion for the world of alt-rock in Tucson, Lotus-owned radio stations KFMA and La Caliente (the biggest Spanish language in the market) are switching frequencies, with KFMA moving to 102.1 and La Caliente taking over the dual spots of the dial of 92.1 and 101.3 on March 21 at midnight. For what it’s worth, 102.1 is the more powerful tower, broadcasting at twice the wattage of 92.1, so if you’ve had issues picking up my Friday at 8:05 a.m. appearance on the Fook morning show, this has to be good news.

The editor of the Tucson Weekly. I have no idea how I got here.

  1. This is sacrilege — KFMA always has and should be 92.1 KFMA. “Rock 92” sounds like a crap, flashy idea that tosses a piece of Tucson’s alternative rock heritage to the dogs.

  2. I listen to a lot of SiriusXM these days because I can’t stand the once-great KFMA’s changes, mostly the seemingly 50 minutes of commercials per hour. So, this one got by me until today when I tried to turn on my radio at work.

I am on 102.1, and I’m hearing a little bit of Green Day and A LOT of static. I work by the airport, BTW…hardly a remote location.

  3. The business community in metro Tucson has no respect for alternate rock, or the people who listen to it. All they are interested in, is making money.
